As a teenager coming up in the streets of Los Angeles, 2Five, like a lot of impressionable inner city youth, fell victim to the perils of his own environment and turned to selling drugs as a way of life. At the time, it may have been viewed as the only way of escaping his bleak future. After awhile he grew tired of his illegal ways, and straightened himself out…at least temporarily. It was then that Hip-Hop really became his true passion. “Really, it happened right around the time I was about seventeen. I started really saying, ‘I could do this!!’ I started trying to get developed, gain my experience as a writer, and an artistâ€.
Unfortunately, living life on the straight and narrow proved to be short lived, and the streets quickly came calling again. Only this time, when he hit rock bottom because of said lifestyle, he immediately turned to God. He sought and found solace in His higher power, and through that spiritual connection, 2Five was eventually freed from his ‘shackles’ once and for all.
From that point, he made a commitment to give his gift of writing, rapping and performing back to the Lord. His sound, he believes, is a breath of fresh air, because it is raw. It is soulful music that brings forth a relevant message to this generation, because it appeals to the streets and the people that have been through something in life and want to see a change. His music is meant to prick your heart, get your attention, and speak about situations that continue to affect our communities daily.
Currently, 2Five’s mix tape “I Plead the 5thâ€, was released in October 2007 under The Machine Productions, and his forthcoming, still to be titled debut is soon to follow. 2Five definitely is in this for the long haul. “Jesus Christ has given me the events and situations that have turned into testimonies and a story. And, that story, I didn’t ask for it. But being that it’s there, it’s equipped me to have something to sayâ€.
