books, music, good times
Nobody in particular, everyone in general.
All genres except jazz (apologies to the jazz lovers but I'm not that cultured). I try to get to as many live performances as I can but only in the smaller venues. I don’t like big ass shows where you can barely see the performers and its all about the spectacle. Even Bob Dylan sucked at Maple Leaf Gardens and Bruce Springsteen at the Skydome , not good, except for the headstand. Some memorable moments this year, Ron Sexsmith singing Stevie Wonder at the Phoenix, Lindy and Beautifully Undone at the Drake *swoon*, Jeremy Fisher, same night at the Drake (I am *so* not a loser, Mr. Fisher!), Luke Mulholland opening for Sue Foley at Healey's. Actually most shows at Healey's are outstanding. Murray MacLauchlan at the Mariposa Folk Festival. He sang Farmer's Song which I've heard at least 10,000 times before and I cried even though I don't know any farmers.
Sam Roberts sings Gordon Lightfoot.
I’m not into movies. Funny movies never make me laugh, sad movies leave me depressed and good movies are hard to find. Midnight Cowboy was good.
Still mourning the loss of the X-Files. Nothing will ever compare to Mulder and Scully. I like Canadian Idol too, especially Season 2.
Where to even start? Recent faves, Bonesetter's Daughter, Until I Find You, Lincoln Lawyer and The Closers, A Long Way Down, Little Scarlet and Cinnamon Kiss, Kafka on the Shore, The Girls and Rush Home Road, Prep, On the Glory of it All, An Evening of Long Good-byes, The Zahir, The Shadow of the Wind (truly fabulous), Brick Lane and Alentejo Blue, Winter's Bone. On the bedside table right now is Wayne Johnston's The Custodian of Paradise and Jose Saramago's The History of the Seige of Lisbon. All-time favourite is probably Wuthering Heights with Heathcliff being the ultimate dirty dog.
