Aw hell...just grab that bass and slap it hard!!

About Me

Born in Kansas, but Texas raised, I have been playing instruments since the age of 7. Classical Piano trained for many years, I began fiddling with my friend's guitar, and soon found a desire to learn the bass as well. As a teenager, I found myself playing in many garage bands and local acts as a bassist. Learning the basics of bass playing, I soon found the desire to learn new styles and incorporate them together into a funky slap-driven style. At the pinnacle of my learning, I started listening to Mark King of Level 42. I was amazed at his versatility and percussion on the strings, and soon found myself emulating his every chop and groove. This would certainly become the muse of my playing, as well as my writing for the years to come. In the 80s and 90s, I played in many bands through the Ft. Worth club circuit, and soon had a following of admirers that appeared rather intrigued that I would do on bass whereas most would identify with people of African decent. Nonetheless, it wasn't uncommon for me to try out a variety of basses at the local guitar stores; soon surrounded by a fascinated audience of all sorts, and would commonly receive the token invite to join local Black Gospel church bands. Although I didn't have the time to commit myself to such a task, I was honored all the same. After many years of the club circuit -- wasting essential sleep and making nearly no money at all, I left the scene abruptly to pursue my career in Nursing. Now, as a Nurse Practitioner in Family Practice, I still find the occasional time to jam along with my computerized MIDI system and home studio. Albeit there is a lack of "audience drive," I enjoy the ability to relax with my music, and pretty much play whatever I want.....whenever I want.
