Zen and the Art of Dog Mushing

About Me

I've been in Alaska for 4 years now, splitting my time between Anchorage in the winter and Denali in the summer. After training a team of dogs for the Iditarod for two mushers for three winters I was given the opportunity to run it last year to train in our "puppy" team. I also substitute 3-4 days a week for k-3 during the winter. I can proudly say that I am earning a living at two of my passions, mushing and teaching, something I could only dream of doing when I was younger.

My Interests

Mushing, canoeing, gardening, reading, ultimate frisbee, natural history, teaching, traveling, hiking, camping, writing...ect width="425" height="350"param name="

I'd like to meet:

Dahli Lama, Joe Reddington Sr., Leonhard Seppela, Admiral Byrd

Music:

Ben Harper, Ben Folds, Greg Brown, Neil Diamond (the older stuff), Alison Krauss. My interests are so ecclictic I can't list them all.

Movies:

Iron Will, Finding Forester, Chasing Amy, Dead Poets Society, Good Will Hunting, Twelve Angry Men

Television:

Well, I'm watching the Thanksgiving Day Game right now, but this is the first time I've watched TV since the NBA finals.... It's hard to watch TV when you don't own one, not that I'd have the time or want to sit inside and watch all that brainless mind numbing crap. When I do get a chance though, Discovery channel, PBS, History, or any quality news channel.

Books:

A Brave New World, Ishmael, The Cruelest Miles, River Why, Siddhartha, Sand County Almanac, anything by Sigurd Olsen, The Dark Elf Trilogy, Lord of the Rings, Ender's Game

Heroes:

Leonhard Seppela, Christian Bisson, Barry Sanders, Miguel de Grayling, my father. Would rather call them Role Models.
