I enjoy the arts in all forms, from visual to performing arts. I am always ready to see a show or go to an art gallery. Since I am musician, I know the detication and time that goes into any art form. I want to learn more swing and salsa dancing. I always have enjoyed good jazz, beer/wine, and time with friends.
Fun and intelligent people that have a sense of humor, enjoy multiple styles of music, and like going out as much as staying around the house.
There is only few styles I do not enjoy (hip-hop and bad rap are out). I am always in the mood for jazz from bluegrass and ragtime to modern (Kenny G is out...he is not jazz by the way) and especially "traditional" jazz: Miles Davis, Charlie Parker, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Billie Holiday, Coltrane, Cannonball, Bags, and the list goes on for a while. I enjoy rock from the 60's, 70's, and especially the 80's. Steely Dan, Santana, The Beatles, and Pink Floyd for great listening. Aerosmith, Rush, and Led Zeppelin for getting the rock on and standing the test of time. Spike Jones and Steven Lynch for the funniest music ever written. I also enyoy the traditonal/ non-popular styles, but I will not bore you with that here.
I am very particular with movies, but I like to laugh: "Galaxy Quest", "Blazing Saddles", and "The Jerk". A good movie is a great script(dialog/deep characters), well acted, good camra angles and movement. A great film must be visualy stunning as well. "Sin City" was very well done. I enjoy just about eveything with Gene Hackman, Christopher Walken, or Alan Rickman. Tim Burton is a great story teller. If it has a monkey, a midget (sorry...small person), and a explosion, it is usually worth sitting through.
Television is like movies; I do not like crap, especialy Reality TV. I enjoy meaningful dramas like Law & Order, CSI, and House. Their scirpts twist and turn and keep you thinking throughout. I always enjoy a good comedy: Simpsons, Scrubs, and MST3K are the best.
I am dyslexic so books are more frustrating than enjoyable. However, that does not keep me from reading or writing books. I enjoy reading about the history of sports, movies, and all styles of music. I even wrote a book based on my Master's thesis entitled, "A Guilde to the Perforamce of Renaissance Percussion." (write me if you want to learn more.)
Believe it or not, my primary heroes are my parents. They have always been there and I know many parents are not. My dad died when I was 13 and my mother, an Italian emigant, raised four kids with my brother and a sister in college. She only had a high school diploma and gave me everything I needed. Though he passed away, my dad has also been with me every step of the way of my music career.
