On October 17, 2001, HYDE began his solo activity by releasing his first single, "evergreen" in Japan and Asia from his own label, Haunted Records. His bewitching but sweet whispering voice is melted into the solemn sounds of this song. Together with its unique cover artwork, the single caused a huge sensation.
Following the debut single, he released his 2nd single, "Angel's tale" on December 22, a beautiful ballad which you may want to call "a Christmas song in HYDE's vision." Then, on February 27, 2002, he released his third single, "SHALLOW SLEEP" with a pop-beat tune, which has a different taste from the previous two singles.
HYDE's long-awaited first solo album entitled "ROENTGEN" (Japanese Version) was released for his own home market, Japan, on March 27, 2002, and its INTERNATIONAL VERSION, which consists of all English-language recordings, will be released in all of the Asian territories outside Japan in July. Both versions of the album were recorded at AIR STUDIOS in London. All the songs were produced and penned by HYDE himself, and was co-produced, arranged and mixed by Ian Curnow and Dave Ford. Together with support by renowned artists such as Phil Palmer (acoustic & electric guitar), Chris Laurence (double bass), Dave Arch (piano, organ), Ian Thomas (drums), HYDE made the album up to the standard where it cannot be categorized as a "J-Pop (Japanese pop)" album but one which can be a true diverse "international" album.
HYDE's total album sales are over 500,000 and single sales (three singles) over 1,000,000 in Japan alone.

Basic Summary: HYDE began his solo when his band, L'Arc~en~Ciel decided to take a break (they did NOT disband and have recently released a new album). The other members also began their own solo careers. HYDE has recently released a new single Countdown (the English and Japanese version are playing on this site) which was used as the theme for the Japanese version of the movie Stealth starring Jamie Foxx.
