Hey Buddy, I know you’re in a better place now… I just wished that I could have seen you one more time…tell you how much a great friend you were.
You were one of my best friends and we had the best of times, you were like a brother to me, we even shared the same birthday.
I remember the day I spoke to you a couple days before I was leaving for training and then eventually to Iraq, how you were comforting me, telling me that I was going to be safe and that everything was going to be alright. I wish that I could have spoken those same words to you.
Being in the military, we both had to put the mission first, as well as make sacrifices. Being away from home, away from families and friends, and missing the holidays. You and me – we’ve made a lot of sacrifices, but none more important than your ultimate sacrifice.
They say the good die young and I guess you were just too special to stay on this earth.
Richard, you will never be forgotten. My sister was right, your name does suit you well – “Valiant†as defined is “marked by or showing courage; brave†and that’s what you are Richard, the bravest person I know.
I love you brother and I’ll see you again.
