About Me

I return to Key West October 12th! Get the beer ready! Just keep the jellyfish away from me.

Here are some pictures!

My Interests

Journalism.

I read a lot of books. I study world religion, politics and criminology in my spare time because I need hobbies.

I have recently been certified for SCUBA diving and that is lots of fun. There is no experience you can really compare it to. And you get to fight fish on their own turf. (fish punch count: 1)

I'd like to get into mountain climbing because I keep reading books about it, but I smoked for ten years so that's probably out.

I drink a lot of coffee.

I've probably seen every episode of Law and Order ever taped, I have a secret fetish for a reality show that will remain anonymous, I can watch the weather channel for an hour and not get bored.

When I do manage to leave the house other than work I'm usually at Wall St. Cantina, Eye Spy and Howl at the Moon. Or shooting pool. Or at the dog park.

I'd like to meet:

Joseph Kittinger and Sasquatch

Music:

The soothing sounds of my half-beagle, half-brontosaurus yowling at squirrels through the night

Movies:

apocalypse now, grosse point blank, indiana jones, batman, until the end of the world, high fidelity, trainspotting, etc.

Television:

Lost, Law and Order Criminal Victims Special Unit Intent Squad, Nip/Tuck, The Shield, the Office, Big Brother oh god

Books:

Welsh, Bret Ellis, Hunter S. Thompson, Nick Hornby, Jerry Stahl, Kerouac, Burroughs, Ballard, Vonnegut, PKD

Heroes:

My 3.5 legged dog, of course. Also Batman.

My Blog

welcome to the jungle, baby

I have returned as expected from my adventure to the keys! And, as a result, I am four days older and moderately wiser. I learned: - It is hot outside - When you sleep outside, it will be hot when you...

i have no gills!

A combination of factors urged me to abandon all rational thought and train myself to swim deep under water with nothing much  more than a rubber hose screwed into a tank filled with air: 1. We...

Blog of the year

I only say that because it is, in fact, the only blog I've posted this year. I feel bad having alienated my blog; we used to be so close. Allow me to catch up. 2006-07 recap: - Engaged- Bought a house...

Chupacabra

I'm not always on top of my game early in the morning, so it took a little while for this to sink in. We'll start from the beginning. Patton has a bad habit of waking me up early in the morning, usu...

gaelic is funny

I have returned as promised from Europe. This is sort of disappointing as I have also returned to work. Starting grad school this afternoon as well. My poor, sleep-deprived brain! It's nice to be back...

mind the blogs

I've been less than productive this week; it's possible to write it off as being burnt out, working too many hours over the previous month or a general lack of respect for my position at the universit...

(not really) getting (that) old

If I had to rate my 24th year on a scale from 1 to 10, and I was being objective about it, I'd probably put it somewhere near a 2. I'd like to stain it in a more favorable light, but look back on the ...

an ocean voyage, and pictures thereof

We're back from our too-short tropical adventure and I'm happy to report it was a fantastic time. Thanks to everyone for coming out; I don't think it would have been the same if any of you hadn't sign...

lost at sea

Counting down on the last four hours of work before vacation starts; I'm pretty excited about it - half of the fun's going to be the vacation itself, the other half is not having to be at work. As of ...

the good old days

I can remember, sort of, a time before my life had responsibilities and consequences and deadlines - when all I had to do with myself was get out of bed in time for class and wait for the student loan...
