About Me

A Methodist who wants to be Catholic (but drinks like a Presbyterian).

MY THEOLOGICAL PROFILE
You scored as Roman Catholic. You are Roman Catholic. Church tradition and ecclesial authority are hugely important, and the most important part of worship for you is mass. As the Mother of God, Mary is important in your theology, and as the communion of saints includes the living and the dead, you can also ask the saints to intercede for you.
However, you are also very Neo orthodox. You reject the human-centredness and scepticism of liberal theology, but neither do you go to the other extreme and make the Bible the central issue for faith. You believe that Christ is God's most important revelation to humanity, and the Trinity is hugely important in your theology. The Bible is also important because it points us to the revelation of Christ. You are influenced by Karl Barth.

My Interests

Theology, Music + the dialogue between the two. Playing Bass Guitar. And Guitar. And a bit of banjo. Gregorian Chant. Fly-fishing. Kayaking. Canoeing. Stargazing. And planetgazing. Cooking. Visiting museums + collecting art postcards. Pipe smoking. Alsatian Gewurtztraminers. Single Malt Whisky. Kentucky Bourbon. And enjoying all of the above with my lovely bride.

I'd like to meet:

And I'd still like to meet a drunk duck. Because that would be so fun. Can you imagine a slurred "quack"? Oh, that cracks me up.

adopt your own virtual pet!

Music:

AND Gregorian Chant.

Movies:

Television:

Law & Order. SVU. Life on Mars. Old reruns of Homicide. And Miami Vice is fun, but only if you dismiss the right-wing political/cultural agenda and enjoy it for its pure campiness.
Cooking shows - but not that Jamie Oliver punk. He wishes he could cook. The BBC competition between UK regional chefs this summer...that was awesome, studying local cuisines and ingredients. And Hell's Kitchen is good. But the UK version, not the one in the USA. They're entirely different shows. Though I read somewhere that they're bringing the UK version to the US sometime soon.

Books:

FICTION

NON-FICTION - I don't necessarily AGREE with all of these books, but I have enjoyed critically engaging each of them. :)

Heroes:

My Grandpa.
..
The little kid is NOT me, in case you're wondering. I'm the 14-yr-old in the blue and white rugby shirt.

Karl Barth’s Musical Iconoclasm

Okay, so I've just finished editing the second chapter of my dissertation, much of which is material that I wrote over three years ago. How is it that I'm still interested in this topic? Perhaps becau...

...but Kant has no rhythm.

So after finishing Kant's Analytic of the Sublime, and then returning to a paper I once wrote on Augustine, I realize that the aforementioned (aforeblogged?), outrageously verbose, quote from Kant wil...

Kant can count!

There is a strange perversion in those of us actually enjoy tackling difficult texts in the attempt to find out what they're trying to say. Tonight, while reading the "Analytic of the Sublime" in Kan...

So I've got a writing project for the summer now: post-Kantian aesthetics. It's not what I was expecting, but I think it's a good idea. Of course I'll spend the first few weeks doing some research, bu...
