FUNK MY SOUL... [email protected]

About Me

The story of The Funkateers starts all the way back in that magical year of 1987 when the members of the band were first conceived and then arrived on earth early the next year. Their paths first crossed when they met in the little town of Hereford where they went to school together but they did not form a band until the Autumn of '05 after a few collaborations with other bands, including the incredibly weird and interesting Oofats (who often gig around Hereford). Tom, Pete and Sam decided to branch off and start a funk band with a new singer, Ed. Thus by the process of Nuclear Fission the band joined together to form an unbreakable bond of the most powerful force known to man. Funk. United as one with their mission to funkify the whole of Herefordshire and then, if there's still time, the rest of the world. We got down to writing some grooves and began trying to get some gigs, including a couple of parties for people we know just for a laugh. We then got the bright idea of adding a girl to the band to add more soulful vocals to the songs, so we asked a friend of ours called Tizzy, to help us out. Finally, the funkateers are complete and after playing a great premiere gig at the TES crimbo gig in Leominster, at which we were very well received, we are ready to play all the gigs we can and bring the funk back to Hereford. The funkateers, as the name suggest, are a funk band with a hint of rock, blues, jazz, pop and many other things which you'd think wouldn't work, and maybe it doesn't but we don't care because we like it. If this sound appealing to you then great, come along and see us some time, if not, iv probably explained it badly anyway so why not come along and make up your own mind. Heres a video of us funking it out at K's pool club recently, check it out and see what you think.

Music:

Band Members: The Funkateers are:Pete - Bass Guitar, Ed - Vocals, Tizzy - Vocals, Tom - Drums, Backing Vocals and sax, Sam - Guitar and Backing Vocals...CONTACT EMAIL ADDRESS FOR ANYONE WHO ISNT ON MYSPACE: [email protected]
Influences: Sam - The funkateers are influenced by many things, including the sunrise over Hereford on a mid-summers day, the mothers of George Clinton and Bootsy Collins for supplying the world with funk for the first time, anyone who comes to our gigs (doesn’t matter they love us or hate us, as long as they are there), the subtle guitar grooves of John Frusciante not to mention the rest of the Chillis and their music, the competent drum work of whoever’s James Brown’s drummer, James Brown himself, one of the three musketeers, well that’s all I can think of rite now so any other members of the band feel free to add their own to this list.Pete - Well ive been influenced from a whole load of places from Flea to this random awsum bass player we saw on a drum video, to a really funky gorilla i once saw! yeah plus those sam mentioned.Tom - Everything funky and with rhythm, jabo and clyde from james brown, chad smith, george clinton, parliament and funkadelic and of course rupert tighe. And by the way deutsch the funky bassist is called Victor Wooten and hes an absolute ledg.Edwardo Rodriguez - Oh baby, thats the spot, I'm hearin' the honey-sweet melodies af Anthony Kiedis paralleled by the fast moving chants discovered amongst his early work, I'm talkin' about Freaky Styley freckles. I hear a quiet rap from the man himself, Andre 3000, combined with the gut piercing screams of Jaaaaaames Brown. The overall sound produced is what you might say we as the Funkateers are striving for... but one things for certain, we're bringing this original funky sound home to you.XxXxXtizzy - well what can i add to this great mesh of influences and encounters? well im more of a indie girl myself so my inspiration comes from down that avenue in terms of what i listen to all the time, but i do enjoy my time in the funkateers. its been heart warming so far to hear the music that we have invented, and we'd really love to know what you make of it. let us know.
Sounds Like: James Brown on prozac with a funky gorilla up his arse having sex with George Clinton whilst listening to Sly Stone getting roundhoused by Chuck Norris
