About Me

Hello. I'm Alan. I've lived in Cork all my life. Nice to meet you and that.
Pretty much my entire life revolves around music, and has done for a long time. I started playing guitar when I was 12 and from then I guess music became the only thing I cared about to any great degree. School was alright but I could never focus my attention. During classes I used to just sit in the back of the class and listen to At The Drive-In records in my headphones. It was alright actually.
I've played in a couple of bands. I played guitar in a hardcore/emo/blah band called My Remorse for a few years. Listening back to the recordings, I couldn't play those guitar parts now to save my life. But it was good fun for the most part. I met a lot of people through that band that I still know and consider good friends.
After that I formed a band called Hooray For Humans at the end of 2006. It was kinda different to what I was used to playing (though I listened to lot of that kind of stuff). I didn't have a clue what I was doing though. It was my first time singing and actually writing entire songs, lyrics and all. We put up a demo online and next thing we were on Out On A Limb Records, and were going to be doing an album. Crazy.
H4H got a bigger reaction than anything else I'd been involved in. We were on TV and radio and stuff. We even played gigs to people who weren't our friends, which was totally outlandish to me. People actually liked music I had written. We did a UK tour last March which was great. We toured with a band called Super Tennis who are the best people you could ever know. They're in my top friends, you should listen to them. Also we released a 7 inch single, which was something I’d always wanted to do.
My current project (as of June '08) is finishing the second Hooray For Humans album. I started writing the album in March. I'd had about 8 or 9 songs written before that, which I'd intended to release on a second record, but I ditched them in February or so.. I guess they just sounded too much like the first album. I don't like when musicians repeat themselves, so I figured it would be pretty hypocritical to do it with my own band. Anyway, that’ll be recorded in August.
Besides that, I’m talking with a couple of friends about starting a new band. Names being thrown around are Subtle, Blood Brothers, Black Dice, Dalek and other stuff. I probably just oversold us by 10,000% just by saying those names, but yeah. It’ll probably be a freak out anyway, which I’m looking forward to. On top of this I’ve been recording lots of other stuff on my own that I might put up online soon. A lot of it is ambient stuff like Labradford or Aix Em Klemm. It’s fun to record that stuff.
Anyways, feel free send me a message or whatever. If I’m online it means I’m killing time between recording or writing, so I’ll need to be distracted.
x
