Music (all different kinds of stuff, I'm a dork about it), Art, Kiting, Hiking, Movies (a dork about those too), conversation from social aspects to good old love and sex bitching....good intelligent conversation about the world at large and all things pertaining to it (both sociological and psychological), being social and trying new things and learning from others. I try to live in the world, not apart from it.
Friends (both real and online), Advisers, Gurus, Your Mom, and Maggie Gyllenhaal. Too many people to list I guess..... I'd like to meet Jesus and Buddha for chicken wings some night.
And I want to have a beer with Mark motherfucking Knopfler. Fuck Clapton. This is the man.
and this guy too even though he probably would have just hit me with a beer bottle. GG Allin with Dee Dee Ramone. Some of you can take this message to heart. :) kidding.
Everything from 70's rock to bluegrass to folk to rap to omnipop (you never heard this one before I guarantee) to Industrial to Metal to Outlaw to .... well the indescribable... I'm a live music collector and know way too many useless facts about music, having worked in the business somewhat on the promotions and booking end. I could show you lots of new stuff you never heard, some of which you'll love and some will make you want to throw big objects at my head.... here I'll just make a partial list -
David Bromberg, NRBQ, The Geto Boys, Arlo Guthrie, Guns n' Roses, Motorhead, Dead Kennedys, GG Allin, The Grateful Dead, Flatt and Scruggs, Steve Goodman, Warren Zevon, Buddy Guy, ZZ Top, Yes, King Crimson, Steely Dan, Ice Cube, Hypnotic Clambake, The Ominous Seapods, Freekbass, Les Claypool, Bootsy FUCKING Collins, Junior Brown, Hank Williams III, Ween, Bleeding Deacons, Ekoostik Hookah, Reverend Horton Heat, John Prine, Unknown Hinson, Z-Rock Hawaii, Jet, CW McCall, Talking Heads (and any David Byrne solo stuff), Michael Hurley, James Brown, Bobby Womack, and your mother underneath me last night..... and um shit we've just scratched the surface. Got a year to listen to me talk?
ummmmm oh and I met Arlo Guthrie, that was still my favorite experience out of many like it. I gave him a nugget and a hug.
Here watch this and shut up.
Jorma and Bromberg in 1985. Enjoy bitches
I love all kinds but as of late my favorites are American Splendor, Secretary, Human Traffic, The Aviator, Spaceman, Tenacious D: Pick of Destiny, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, What About Bob, Apocalypto (I can't believe I liked it, but I did) Beerfest, ... just too many to list... dammit Steve Martin was the funniest person on the planet in his prime. Always a good conversation topic :)
Speaking of Steve Martin here is him playin excellent banjo with the the Muppets. Pimp.
I don't watch much TV but when I do I like Scrubs, South Park, Futurama, Simpsons, Seinfeld, Reno 911, Cops, TRAILER PARK BOYS!, Documentaries, Sanford and Son (bawmp bawmp bow wow), ummmm... the list could go on and on.
Usually I just watch movies though, I forget when shows are on, and I'm not really very much into most reality television. I had a friend who went on Blind Date and told me how controlled and rigged it was, and it kinda ruined all the "reality" stuff for me. Cheaters is some funny stuff though.
Kurt Vonnegut (Rest in Peace), Stephen King, Hunter S. Thompson, Ken Kesey, Allen Ginsberg ummmm various classics and such. Reading Vonnegut's new-ish short one, Man Without a Country, for like the 10th time now, I cannot put that fucking book down.
Bill Hicks, Harry Chapin, Axl Rose, Sam Kinison, Lenny Bruce, Richard Pryor, Howard Stern, Christopher and Dana Reeve, Larry Flynt, Kurt Vonnegut, Warren Buffet, Warren Zevon too while I'm on a Warren kick.
and all those others who have shown that you don't have to do it "their" way for your entire life. And my brother who is a constant inspiration in so many ways.
"This is a song about people who tell you that you can't get anywhere with your life, this is called Double Talkin' Jive motherfucker...."
Inspiration comes from the strangest of places sometimes. I didn't want to quote the Dead lyric, thanks.
