A friend of mine once commented on my "bleak hilarity... A world-weary brow lifted over a wry smile, as [I] nod to the absurdity that is all we have this side of the grave." Which is putting rather a fine point on it, I think, but I tend to attract friends who are given to make pronouncements like this. Another friend told me that I "personify bemusement," but I'm not sure he knew what the word meant. Or rather, I think I know what he thought he meant, which is what most people mean when they say "bemusement," but I'm not sure that's the actual definition. I'm kind of confused about it all, actually; we can talk about that later. My niece has told me that I'm "nerdy" and "kid-like," both of which I accept as compliments. I'm also tall. And nearsighted.
