A Sneak Peek... An Excerpt from Thugs II Men: A Penitentiary StoryMy mother had me but the streets raised me. Pops died when I was like 4.
Sometimes I wonder what my life would have been like if my father was around.
It’s something about that added discipline, that fatherly fear that makes a young
boy want to get some “act rightâ€. Oh well, I guess I’ll never know the answer to
that one. I know a lot of cats with no father. In fact, even most of the homies I
know who have fathers, their fathers don’t live with them. Being launched into
that role of man of the house, that’s instant responsibility. Hell, I was the Big
Dog. 14 years old coming and going as I pleased. Running those streets,
running that crack and making a name for myself. I didn’t realize then, that while
I was doing all of that running, I was also running out of time. You'd think that
watching your homies dying around you would be a clue. Funny the kinds of
things we get use to. I found myself attending funerals on the regular. Me and
the homies who made it, all “G’d†up, more concerned about who’s the most “G’
d†and hoping more people show up for our going away party. I hardly paid any
attention at all to the homey’s broken-hearted mother damn near on her knees,
crying her eyes out and screaming like she was dying just a few pews away.
Damn, how can Thuggin’ make you not care about something as real as that?
Then again, I barely care about what happens to me, so caring about the
homey’s mom would be extra. I do care about my hood though. I care about my
homies, the ones that are still alive, my money, my rep and a bunch of other
stuff that I had to sell my soul to the devil for to call my own. But I got love for
them and they got love for me. So much love that they don’t want me to leave;
ever. In fact, the homies told me the only way I could get out was feet first, blood
in blood out. They said if I tried to leave that they’d find me and kill me, out of
love. Hell, I may have to rethink this love stuff. These are Those Hidden Under
Ground Stories...
