About Me

SATURDAY JUNE 21st
Fusion Entertainment Presents"Replay" || DJ AL JACKSON ||This son of a jazz musician is dedicated to bridge the gap between hip hop and jazz. His musical influences range from Allen Jackson(dad) and John Coltrane to Pete Rock. Al’s DJ career was launched in 1989 fueled by his passion for collecting records and the desire to start an underground dance club. Simply stated, he began deejaying because he got tired of waiting in long lines and spending lots of money for clubs that were not worth the price of admission. In the year 2000, he was nominated for a LA Weekly Music Award as the “Best Selector DJ” and he was nominated for a NAACP Theater award in the “Best Musical Score”category for the play “2G’S.” He won the 2002 NAACP Theater Award for “Best Musical Score” in the play “Weights.” Currently, he has his own music production company called “Sincerebeats.” Through his company Sincerebeats, Al has released 2 DJ-mix CDs entitled L’automne and 2nd Quarter with more releases to follow.

CHOC ||
The name Mr. Choc comes from a 6th grade friend. Choc says, "…back in the day, my best friend called me 'Chocolate Man' and by the end of the day, everybody called me that". Eventually it evolved into "Mr. Choc" by time he migrated to Power 106 in 1995.
Choc, originally from Bakersfield, worked for a radio station there from 1993 to '95 and had a mix show called the Saturday Night Café with DJ C-Minus. Together they were known as "The Ruffnex." They brought their own flava to Power 106 and took over the overnight show eventually finding their own places within the station.
It was Choc's mom that sparked his love for music. "My mom was a record collector", Choc says, "…so I got into music and dancing. I started performing at the age of 10, buying records and spinning records since I was 13". Choc finds it funny that mixing has evolved so much in such a short amount of time. Before coming to Power 106, he was amazed with what DJs in L.A. were doing with two records, making their own compositions, with the beats, flares and scratching.
He became a part of the Beat Junkies in '96. Choc says, "…ever since then, it's been important to take my skill to the next level, cause everybody in the Beat Junkies had won awards, including two world titles from the ITF (International Turntable Federation). That forced me to step up and take it to a level that hasn't been seen yet". And Mr. Choc's style is unique. It's a style that he didn't bite from anyone. Without a doubt, he is one of the top 4 radio mixers in the game.
Choc would eventually like to get into programming Power 106 and put our more mix tapes. Recently signed to Rawkus Records, Choc is getting ready to put out an album, "Sound Bombing Three". Choc will continue to his journey into manipulating music on the turntables as long as he is still having fun. He's already passed along his mixing to the next generation. "Even though I've tried to talk him out of it, my 10 year old son is mixing now.
Whenever I come home, he's practicing just like I did when I was a kid"|| CROWN CITY ROCKERS ||What happens when you combine trained musicians from the world-renowned Berklee School of Music in Boston, with an articulate emcee and breathtaking beat-wizard both born and raised in sunny, southern California?Crown City Rockers, that's what - a genre-blending hip-hop collective whose music is original, powerful and provocative all in the same breath and follows in the storied footsteps of such pioneers as The Roots, De La Soul and Tribe Called Quest.
With an organic blend of lush, funk-drenched grooves, riveting classic soul samples, sharp live instrumentation and of course old-school inflected rhymes, Crown City Rockers is a welcome breath of fresh air in today's commercially cluttered hip-hop cosmos.
Comprised of stellar emcee Raashan Ahmad, producer Woodstock, keyboardist Kat Ouano, bassist/producer Headnodic, and drummer Max MacVeety, Crown City Rockers formed in Beantown's Roxbury section during the late nineties.
The Crown City Rockers' epic full-length LP, Earthtones was release late last year. It is an astonishing achievement, seamlessly fusing all of the group's sonic facets together. Indeed, the album overflows with Raashan's battle raps, poetic musings and emotionally fraught tracks about life and love. The lyrics are, in turn, melded with Kat's keyboards, Max's drums and Headnodic and Woodstock's beats - which run the creative gamut frum funk and soul, to jazz, to straight classic hip-hop.

What makes Sloe Poke one of L.A. ’s best DJ’s is that he can spin several styles of music with ease. Sloe Poke attributes his skills to the years of spinning for people with diverse tastes, ages and cultures. Most DJ’s can spin two or three different genres of music but get lost when it comes to Latin music. This is where Sloe Poke excels. He’s the kind of DJ that can entice the older generation to go out on the dance floor and put a younger crowd to shame. He can mix a Salsa classic like Joe Arroyo’s “Rebelion” with Celso Pina’s Sonidero hit, “Cumbia Sobre El Rio,” then follow those songs with Thalia’s poppy, “Piel Morena” and Frankie Cutlass’ club fave, “ Puerto Rico,” making it all flow together somehow.

Los Angeles is where the spotlight shines on many, and sometimes, as in his case, it fixates and radiates upon a deserving, home-grown talent. Watson, a DJ and producer, has basked in the glow of local nightlife honors, including the "Best DJ-Selector" (per LA Weekly), and as a promoter, his parties have ranked among URB magazine's "Best Intimate Soirees." Such accolades are all good, but certainly, they're not all that's good about Watson.
Beyond L.A.'s ever-present glitz, Watson is continued proof that the spotlight arrives, thrives and luminously lingers amidst the underground. Thanks to Body Music, his sonic signature comprising intelligent selections of house, disco, funk, Afrobeat and beyond - basically, "anything that makes your body move" - he's left an indelible imprint on the L.A. scene. Consequently, legions of music aficionados and like-minded peers gravitate toward the experience Watson provides: the uplifting, transcendent side of nightlife.
Watson's current career momentum dates to 2000 and his three-year residency at MORE Fridays, a popular weekly party that attracted legendary DJs Kerri Chandler and Harvey (and major Watson influences), among others. Soon thereafter, his DJ style, literally, took on a life of its own. Regular Body Music events sprang up around L.A., further cementing his sound and vision. Their success proved that Body Music isn't solely a vibe, but also Watson's ongoing nightlife ethos - one devoid of worry, attitude, and musical boundaries. Guided by an eclectic sonic palette, and supported by a community of inspired, energetic loyalists, it sometimes seems he's repurposed the classic mantra "free your mind and the rest will follow.
Now more than ever, Watson's brand of music-driven free spiritedness is in effect.
It lives online via his website, www. mekanic. com , and at venues offering captive audiences for not only his selector skills, but his numerous remixes and original productions. "Passages" (2000), still a staple in DJ sets, brought Watson global recognition, appearing on compilations for respected labels Ibadan, Om Records and Pacha Recordings. "Ghetto in the WAX" (2002), first recorded for L.A. label WAX, also re-surfaced on DJ Garth's mix CD "Nite:Life 07" on NRK Sound Division. Currently, Watson's DJ gigs and solo productions (also using the moniker "Mekanic") are supplemented by collaborations with DJ Rylo and under aliases Project Sandro (with Rollmottle) and Nice Dreams (with Royaer). These dynamic duos have spawned several well-received singles - notably, Project Sandro's "Blazer" - thus, triggering Watson and Rollmottle to plan their first full-length album for 2007.
