Mike Lee Alfonso was better known to fans as Mike Awesome. He competed in promotions such as FMW, ECW, WCW, and the WWF(E). He reached his greatest glory in the United States in ECW winning the ECW World Championship on two occasions. He also held the ECW World Tag Team Championship with Raven. In April of 2000 Mike Awesome signed with WCW while still holding the ECW championship. He lost the title to Taz who was contracted to the WWF(E) a short time later. While in WCW Awesome had many nick-names such as "The Career Killer," "The Fat Chick Thrilla," "That 70's Guy," and "The Canadian Career Killer." He was a member of the New Blood faction and Team Canada. After WWF(E) purchased WCW in March of 2001 Mike Awesome became the first member of the ECW/WCW Alliance to win WWF(E) gold when he pinned Rhyno for the Hardcore Title on the June 25th episode of Raw. He lost the title to Jeff Hardy on the July 12th Smackdown with help from Edge and Christian. After this he teamed with Lance Storm for a while. He was released by WWF(E) in September of 2002. Awesome later stated that he "hated" working for the WWF(E). After this he had a minor stint with TNA. Awesome would later retire and sell real-estate in his hometown of Tampa, Florida. In 2005 at the WWE pay-per-view, ECW: One Night Stand Awesome re-newed his rivalry with Masato Tanaka. He would go on to win the match in what some call his best match ever and the best match of that night. This would be his final match as he would pass away on February 17, 2007 of an apparent suicide by hanging. He was 42 years old. He is survived by his wife Delisa and two children, Casey and Carissa.
