About Me

I'm a lot of different things to a lot of different people: a mother of two, writer, blogger, professional marketer and master juggler, at least in the figurative sense. I believe in the power of laughter, kindness, friendship and karma, and that people really do the best they can with the knowledge they have at the time. Well, most people. Most of the time.
So, yeah, I'm a lot of different things to people. I play a lot of different roles in life. Right now, I’m just enjoying playing me. (I've tried hiring others to play me, but no one will return my calls.)

  • My Interests

Walking/hiking, swimming, yoga, reading fiction, writing fiction and essays, traveling, attending the theater, especially musicals (yes, I'm a theater queen!), staring at my dormant piano, eating dark chocolate, eating dessert first, and hanging with my friends, family and kids.

    I'd like to meet:

Fellow writers and others in publishing, friends and family who will publicly acknowledge they know me, plus down-to-earth, honest, cool people.

    Music:

A little of this, a little of that: rock, Motown, blues, pop, alternative and folk. Lately I've been gravitating towards strong female vocalists like Patty Griffin, Norah Jones, Annie Lennox, and Tori Amos.

    Movies:

The Shawshank Redemption, The Princess Bride, the first three Star Wars flicks (I mean the last 3 but the first ones...oh, whatever), Monty Python and the Holy Grail, The Bourne Ultimatum, This is Spinal Tap, The 40 Year-Old Virgin, Mystic River (dark story, excellent acting), Stranger Than Fiction. My taste in movies is a bit like me - sometimes serious and philosophical, sometimes just plain old goofy.

    Television:

I don't watch much TV these days except for Lost, sometimes The Office and shows I won't admit to.

    Books:

Pride & Prejudice; Jane Eyre; Memoirs of a Geisha; Dear Zoe; The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time; Wicked; Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister; Is That a Moose in Your Pocket?; The Kite Runner; The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe; and many more than I can remember at the moment.

Balance, Enlightenment and Other Unholy Grails

A few weeks ago I noticed there was some serious bad juju going on around me. One example: a former co-worker suffered a near-fatal heart attack. Forty years-old, a mother of two or three; someone who...
