About Me

i just finished my MBA and am now at the point in my life where the voice in my head is saying "get a job, act like an adult." well, i'm not sure how i feel about that. i grew up listening to punk rock, and still proudly hold the DIY values and self reliance that i picked up all those years ago. my two main interests are small business development and athletic preparation. my background is in health/fitness and coaching. i decided to go back for my MBA to help me in opening my own facility.even though i spend more and more time in the gym, given the choice i would take off to go bouldering without hesitation. good climbing is more about going out, having a good time with your friends, exploring new areas, and after all that is accomplished... then you worry about putting up big numbers. difficulty should be a by product of motivation and exploration... not the cause.and another version:The trip was really short, from resource management to an MBA, in one respect and exceedingly long in another. As an undergrad one of my major professors/influences had his business degree and a PhD in forestry. That started it. The thought was that i would use the Resource management degree to start working and then go back and use the MBA to be more effective in resource management. At least that was the plan. the reality was that once I graduated the job market fell over and died. So the default was training/coaching. That lead to a management position with a big corp. fitness chain and that lead me back to the MBA after I realized that gigantic corp fitness chains were as much a part of the problem as the solution to the health crisis in this country. That lead me back to the MBA. Now I am starting to work toward focusing in the finance side of business and will eventually, hopefully, head back for my PhD in either Ecology or Economics and focus on environmental cost analysis and/or preservation.Oh, it is worth mentioning that all of this stems from me taking up climbing and backpacking while I lived in New Zealand.
