I met Tommy Nordahl At Hammerjacks in Baltimore in the mid 80's. There was a girl dancing on the bar and tommy had a lighter and was trying to set her dress on fire. I knew right then we would be friends. He invited me to hear his band practice. They were called Scarecrow and were popular in the College Park area outside Washington DC. They were a regular feature at a club known as The Paragon. As I entered the rehearsal basement I was treated to a dark space occupied by one of the strangest and most talented and charismatic rock stars I had ever met. His name was Spin Spur (yes that was his real name). He was the drummer and lead singer of Scarecrow. He could sing Frank Sinatra as well as anyone and rock with the best.At the first gig I attended at The Paragon Tommy Nordahl sang three songs. In those songs I heard a fresh sound that I believed to be marketable. I signed on as their manager and moved Tommy to the front freeing Spin up to concentrate on drumming and providing harmonies to Tommy,s songs. Spin still handled lead vocals on a few tunes. A short time later Tommy and The Love Tribe was born a name that guitarist Tony Webster came up with. (stay tuned I will be adding things as time permits) Paul Ciccone
