About Me

The Arts have always been an important part of my life. My parents knew that I was going to become an artist the day I came home from Pre-kindergarten with my first masterpiece. It was a picture of a brown tree with multi colored leaves falling down. I had so many leaves that they covered the entire page. From then on, my parents kept me exposed to various art forms, such as painting, poetry, music, ballet, and beadwork to name a few. Was this a case of developing raw talent or a young kid just having fun? From those early beginnings, art became a means to express what I was feeling deep inside, good or bad. Art kept me out of trouble; and focused on my goals at a time when outside influences can be strong. It became a safe haven for me.
It was in high school that I began to take art more seriously. Every year I took more and more classes trying to develop my talent. It got to the point where the guidance counselors did not want me to take any more art classes. They did not share my dream. It was also in high school that I fell in love with photography. Photography was a way to preserve memories and create new ones that are lasting. It also allows me to share my story with someone else, and lets them make it their own.
Recently, I took my creativity in another direction. I have been making jewelry for the past few years, and what began as a hobby is now my own business. So, in the summer of 2005, Ace Essentials was born. My jewelry is one-of-a-kind beaded pieces to soothe the inner soul. Ace Essentials had its first art show in New York this past winter. Everyone was impressed with what I had to offer. I was also fortunate to donate some pieces to assist The K.A.R.E. Project’s holiday banquet. They provide assistance to Katrina evacuees currently living in the Washington DC metropolitan area. It was a wonderful opportunity to share my gifts with people who have lost so much.
The School of Art and Design at Montgomery College has allowed me to develop my natural talent, and broaden my exposure. Education and talent are an awesome mix. I plan to continue my formal education at UMUC in the fall of 2007. While my major will be Psychology, I will also explore languages and other cultures. My aim is to become fluent in several languages. This would expand my opportunities, and allow me to communicate my vision better with the world.
Finally, volunteering is very important, and necessary in every community. Giving back to the community that nurtured me is a big priority. I would like to set up a community center with its own shop selling one-of-a-kind handmade art. It would help young children in need explore the opportunities art has to offer. Art is very important in children’s education, both in and out of school. Unfortunately, art is the first thing removed from schools at budget time. Young people need to have something to keep their hands busy, and minds stimulated, or their lives may take a different turn.
Art has helped me to become more open minded and aware of the differences in people. With the recent passing of my father, I have learned to appreciate my talents, and the need to share his legacy. For me, giving is the best gift of all.
I created my own profile using nUCLEArcENTURy.COM and you should too!
