Jim Elliott was one of the most loved and cherished people that could have ever been met in a lifetime. Touching everyone he encountered with his unique life force, Jim's personal mission seemed to be to spread the joy that poured out from within him so freely.
In addition to being a respected and beloved Medical Doctor, Jim was a brilliant Songwriter and Musician who's haunting voice and melodic genius captured his fans with heartfelt words on life, love and loss. A beacon of light to his friends, patients and family, Jim defined the word 'love' and taught us all that "It is not the amount of years in your life, but the amount of life in your years" that matters most.
Jim Elliott died at the age of 42 on October 9, 2007, but his life and giving spirit that he was known and loved for by so many, continues today with the Dr. James Elliott Children's Music Foundation.
Founded by Jim's long time friend, Songwriter/Vocalist Michael McKnight of national rock band Soulidium, (Distributed By ADA/Warner Music Group), and Jim's Sister Kathy & Nephew Nicholas, The Dr. James Elliott Children's Foundation brings with it promise for underprivileged children across America by offering musical instruments to those who do not have the means to partake in the joy's of music.

Born in the Rock City of Detroit Michigan, Elliott showed all the signs of an incredibly gifted musical talent almost from birth. Swaying back and forth in his crib babbling loudly to the music his parents played on their radio, it was obvious that this child was clearly meant for artistic things.
Growing into a deep passion for the music he loved, Elliott had a true desire to play the piano to accompany his warm and original vocal style that earned him the respect of friends, family and neighbors who would often come to hear him sing. Coming from a family of meager means however, a piano was a luxury that was all to distant for Elliott’s reality.
Dusting off and inheriting his older sisters used clarinet, Elliott was forced to take his creativity out on this distant second choice of an instrument. But being passionate about whatever he put his hand to, he mastered the instrument and made the most of what he had available to him. Nonetheless, a love for the piano was something he could not deny and he begged his parents persistently to allow him to at least take piano lessons.
Finally getting his way at age 12, Elliott began piano lessons and practiced at the local music store where he took them with fervor and dedication. Amazed by his natural talents and the praises of his instructors, a year later his parents agreed in faith that dipping into the family emergency funds was warranted and went on to buy their son his first real piano. Although it was nearly impossible to manage, they knew in their hearts that this investment would somehow play into their son’s future and they were pleased to find out after a short while that they were oh so right.
A bright and ambitious student, Elliott’s efforts earned him a 6 year scholarship at the Detroit Center for Creative Studies where he studied classical piano. After years of tedious study and a mission of personal mastery, he would go on to be awarded the coveted Michigan State Title for excellence in classical piano performance.
The heart of Jim Elliott was made of love and music. The Dr. James Elliott Children's Music Foundation shall honor his memory by offering the substance of his heart to children eager to embrace the magic of music.
Join us in celebrating the life and times of Jim Elliott by supporting our mission to bring music and song to the underprivileged, aspiring musicians across our great nation in the name of love and art. The Dr. James Elliott Children's Music Foundation is currently being formed. More about how you can help will be announced here shortly.
