I am something of a geek and am not always all that closeted about it. Therefore the majority of my interests tend to relflect my inner geekness. A friend recently pointed out to me that all of my hobbies can be classified as intellectual pursuits, though I'm not sure that I actually see them as such. I enjoy: quality reading and fiction writing in the good old fashioned tradition of plot and character developement, writing research papers with special joy in the process of researching the chosen topics (yes, students that enjoy knowledge for knowledge's sake are a rarity, but not yet an extinct breed), period Medieval and Renaissance studies, my computer (though it might as well function through magic as through any scientific process that I can understand) and thus the internet, some animes (though I've not seen many and no longer am of an inclination to keep up with the latest and greatest), Tetris and Zelda (these being the only two games that I am capable of playing with any skill or without increased boredom, save the first level of Super Mario and the level in which you kick over laders in Two Towers), and talking with my friends. I have a general disdain for mindless television programing, and only have a very small handful of shows that I have become attatched to.
Anyone who happens to be interested in speaking with me.
I've an oddly ecclectic taste in music. Admittedly, my musical taste tends to lean toward oldies music. I was brought up listening to groups like The Beachboys. Here follows a conversation that occured in my seventh grade year of school between myself and friends while filling out a questionaire:Questionaire: What's your favorite band? Me: The Eagles Friends: Who? Me: ...Nevermind. Questionaire: What's your favorite band? Friends: N'SYNC! Me: ...Who?Obviously I've never stayed very current with my music, although I do shamefully admit to owning several of those horrible pop star cds that are practically required listening for middle school girls in order to survive. So I like oldies. Singers like Three Dog's Night, Herman's Hermits, the Eagles, Beachboys, Elvis (yes, Elvis), Linda Rhondstat, Simon and Garfunkle, Led Zeplin, Moody Blues, the Beatles, and others. And then I have cds of people like Michael Crawford (cookies to anyone who knows who this is without researching), Dido, t.A.T.u. Enya, and Loreena McKennitt. I'm not opposed to punk rock, and have even heard a few interesting remake songs done punk style. I am generally opposed to hearing obsenities and lewd subject matter in music; I simply don't see a reason for it.
