I'm a small town kid driven by rock music and some honky tonk in the mix...
I like whiskey and coke, a double to the top, shot of Cuervo now and then...
Never ask for a lot, I'll never need much, a good looking guy who can drive my truck...
I'm not afraid to admit, I'm that small town kid...
Every last one, route one, rural hearts got a story to tell
Every grandma, in-law, ex girlfriend
Maybe knows us just a little too well
Whether you're late for church or you're stuck in jail
Hey word's gonna get around
Everybody dies famous in a small town
A recent study shows that 92% of all teenagers moved on to emo, etc. Put this in your profile if you're one of the 8% who stayed gangsta as shit.
About a year ago this summer, I took a trip to Nairobi, Kenya, completely unaware of how it would completely change my life. I was there for 2 1/2 weeks, and during that time, I saw things that I will never forget until the day I die. I saw poverty at its lowest extreme, from no electricity to no running water. I saw hunger in the eyes and bellies of 2 year children who hadn't eaten for 3 days. I saw fear and need and the longing for help. But, on the other hand, I saw joy and hope and faith. The people that I encountered in Kenya were the most joyous, thankful, kind, loving people that I had ever met. They welcomed our group with open arms and displayed more hospitality than any Texan could ever think of. They were so grateful for what little they had, and never once thought about complaining about what they didn't. They had their family and their faith and that was all that mattered to them. The reason I am telling you this is because right at this very second, someone is dying of starvation. And WE can help. AMERICA can help. YOU can help. And you don't even have to spend any money. Just visit one of these websites and take some sort of action. You don't have to start some huge campaign to try and change the world. Simply write your congressman, post a banner on your myspace page, or just get informed and spread the word. But please, do something. One by one we can start to make poverty history.
