Inna Nutshell

About Me

The Person:
First, the tedious stuff; me talking about me. ~_^
Who am I?: I'm a born-and-raised Newfoundlander and intend to live and die as one; wherever my feet touch ground, my roots will be here. Of course, I've yet to test that theory as I'm still living in the city that is my first and (thus far) only home, with no sign yet of a serious change of locale. I'm also a child, a sister, and an aunt. I'm a feminist (re-think traditional gender roles, people!), a socialist, a political animal, and -- sometimes I fear-- possibly a hipster (other times I'm perversely proud to be one ;P). I'm shyer than a lot of people -- those who know me, those who think they know me, and those who only know OF me -- think, but "shy" doesn't have to mean anti-social. ~_^
What am I?: At present, I'm a student and I fear I'm sliding down the slippery slope to professional studenthood. I'm still chipping away at a bachelor's degree at dear ol' Memorial University of Newfoundland . However, I've also been toying with the idea of a progam change. That'd be sure to set me back, but it'd also leave me leaving MUN a happier person in the long run.
Don't judge me unless you know me, and even then . . . WATCH yourself. ;P
The Premise:
So . . . why MySpace . . . or why me . . . or, rather, why am I now on MySpace?
I recently opened my email inbox to discover an invite to sign-up here, from the dudes behind the MySpace page for a local band, Elimination Dance (now defunct) -- said-dudes behind the page also being the dude(s) in said-band, coincidentally enough. ~_^ My first thought: Thanks, but no, thanks. At the time the email was being perused, not many of my friends used MySpace. Truth be told, at the time this blurb was being composed, that situation remained unchanged. Besides, I've already got one blog to neglect, and hadn't thought myself hurtin' for another. So. Why bother?
Then came a second thought: Why not?
There may not be many of them, but I DID have a couple of friends already on MySpace: namely the Elimination Dance boys, as well as one Michael "Troll" Collins . If nothing else, perhaps I could use this as a means of keeping track of the latest as regards their respective musical projects; and perhaps not. Perhaps this could turn out to be something more, or perhaps it'll wind up being something less. Who knows?
Thus, a MySpace page was born.
To Conclude:
So that'd be me inna nutshell, pretty much . . . I guess . . ..

My Interests

General:
acting; atheism, spirituality and religion; canadian politics, global politics and local politics; cats; cooking; fantasy; feminism; juggling; movie watching; reading; coffee, espresso, and capuccino; role play games; secrets; sex, sexuality and orgasms; singing; sleep; socialism; student journalism; thunder and lightning; vegetarianism; women's studies; writing

Esoteric:
linguistics: phonology and phonotactics , language acquisition (first/second), semantics and pragmatics
webcomics: Something Positive , The Devil's Panties , Nothing Nice to Say , Theater Hopper , A softer world. , Sluggy Freelance , Two Lumps , Starslip Crisis , Achewood , Gossamer Commons , Rob and Elliot , The Unfeasible Adventures of Beaver and Steve , The Misadventures of Hello Cthulhu , Seppuku Comics , Websnark , Short Packed , Joe and Monkey

I'd like to meet:

First, a caution: I should stress that I mostly joined up here in the interest of keeping up with the couple of friends I have with MySpace pages, or else to possibly make new friends with similar interests. I'm not really sold on the internet as a means of making romantic connections. The only reason I ticked "dating" on my profile was under the idea: Why rule out anything out of hand? ^_^
That out of the way: I like good conversationalists with diverse and divergent interests. I like to talk and I appreciate good conversationalists. Being an admitted nerd, myself, I tend to get along well with other geeks and nerds, but I count my fair share of "normal" people among my friends, too. ~_^
Also, who doesn't like someone with a sense of humour? Seriously. A quick wit and a flair for sarcasm rarely go amiss.
