Classically trained, Soul inspired and Jazz Influenced, Marcya (a.k.a. LibraSun) is one of the most versatile vocalists on the scene. Born in Stuttgart, West Germany, Marcya's musical education began when at 4 years old she was allowed to sit at her grandmother's piano and experiment with the keys. By the time she was 7, her mother realized that she had a talent for music and enrolled her in piano lessons at a local conservatory. "Eventhough I was studying Classical piano, I was exposed to a variety of music. My mom sang Gospel, while my dad was a Jazz pianist. I guess you could say that I was breast-fed on music. When I was kid, I would sit on the piano bench next to my dad and place my hands on top of his while he played. His favorite style of playing was with a walking bass. I would try to stretch my hands to match his. I was never able to match his span, but I did gain a tremendous love of Jazz and music in general."
Marcya's vocal journey began in Junior High School, when she was cast as "Golde" in Fiddler on the Roof. "It was kind of weird. In grammar school I was in chorus, but was never recognized as an exceptional singer. I never received solos and I always sang Alto. All of sudden at 13, I opened my mouth to sing and I had this operatic voice." That operatic voice continued to develop and eventually earned her a contract with a local opera company, the Lyric Theater of Illinois. At the time she was only 19 and still pursuing her degree full time with a double major in Philosophy and Voice Performance at the Chicago Musical College of Roosevelt University. In the years to follow, marcya was named Young Artist of the Year with both the Lakeview Music Society and the Bel Canto Chorus of Milwaukee, received honors from the National Association of Teachers of Singing (N.A.T.S.) and was a featured performer at the International Art Song Festival.
Upon graduating from college Marcya continued to sing professionally as a member of Lincoln Opera Chicago. She attracted the attention of the voice faculty at the University of Iowa and received a full fellowship to the graduate Voice program. Once again she found herself in the dual role of student/artist and spent the next few years traveling between Europe and the U.S. performing, studying and coaching other singers. The difference this time was that she was working as an Opera singer and fronting an Acid Jazz/Neo Soul band. With the band, Perpetual Deep, Marcya was able to combine her technique with an eclectic musical taste. The result is who she is today: A vocalist with the technical prowess of an international opera diva, the musicality of a jazz virtuoso and the funky soul of a true child of the seventies.
Currently Marcya has embarked on a new musical journey in the realm of Dance Music. A chance meeting with one of France's rising stars, DJ Stan Courtois (Resident at Pink Elephant) gave birth to "Feel the Rhythm and Dance" which received rave reviews at the 2008 WMC and was endorsed by Dimitri of Paris, Frank Savannah, Tom "BlackSoul",Ruben Alvarez and DJ Circle among others. This Fall you can expect new collabs with Tom "BlackSoul", Ludovic Allen and Jr. Rex.
