The Wanted

Formed in 2003, Limburg-based band The Wanted met as music journalists, the obvious beginnings of musical talent. ,, I thought, if we could talk and write so well about music, we might as well start a band," says singer/bassist Monique. Since then, playing is what Monique, guitarist Jan and drummer René do so well.True to the band's energy, their music is explosive in a garagey, sarcastic sort of way. The band's influences range from punk to jazz. With Monique's roots in the punk rock scene (Harvey Wallbanger, Black Rabbit), Jan's love for country music and René's experiences in various jazz bands (The Bonel Band, PP-Combo), The Wanted seems a bizarre threesome. ,,Oh yeah", confirms Monique. ,,That's what makes us different! Just as our songs take a different meaning on different days." She explains: ,,Being real is what's important. And having fun! Which other band could combine a disco beat with a punk bass, a slide guitar and jazz vocals?"The band will return to the studio in 2008 to record new songs.
