About Me

"Sometimes musicians experiment for the sake of experimenting, and sometimes they experiment because they’re trying to find an alien beauty they can’t get to any other way. As the local duo LOCRIAN, Andre Foisy and Terence Hannum (who also play together in the gothic folk combo Unlucky Atlas) sculpt eerily gorgeous noise from an impressive array of materials: looped keyboards, jumbles of effects pedals, overdriven wordless vocals, electric and acoustic guitars (bowed, plucked, or just leaned against an amp to feed back), even miked aluminum foil. Their unwieldy heap of gear makes for an awkward-looking stage show, but the sounds they coax out of it are ineffably graceful. So far they’ve got a stack of small-edition releases—CD-Rs, seven-inches, cassettes—on equally small labels, which document a range of approaches from...doomy metal crunch to dreamy drone, often in the same piece. —Monica Kendrick (Chicago Reader)" ||||||||"Last night I went to see some music downtown at Nihilist, an artspace converted from an industrial building into a home-built loft inhabited by any number of amps, records, and weirdos. The second of four acts was a local duo called Locrian, who built a huge pillar of feedback, right on top of my head. One guy started picking an acoustic-electric guitar while the other shouted into a echoed out mic, both of them way too close to their amps, guitar feeding back, mic feeding back, keyboards pounding and probably also feeding back somehow. They each had a big mess of pedals to get a big swirling, pummeling sound, real nice low end from the keys, sometimes the hint of a melody or progression lurking under the squeal, and when the guitarist plugged in the electric, things got nuts. It ended with both sweaty and prostrate before their cabinets, and they were really cool and appreciative and gave me a cool cd-r! Anyway, if you are in Chicago and like loud noise, Locrian is awesome." - from brokenpants.com |||||||| "Plague Journal" is the A side of a n upcoming 7" on Bloodlust! recorded by Jeremy Lemos ||||||| "Gruen Transfers" will be featured on an upcoming cassette compilation on Katchmare and was recorded live at WHPK |||||||| "Setting Yr.
