After some years of growing as a guitar player and a musician, Niels Desmedt founded Schmetterlinck. The name Schmetterlinck was chosen because he liked that German word(for butterfly) so much. Niels searched some other bandmembers and found them. The first rehearsal took place on 11th July 2008 and we started with the song 1302, which is still one of our favorite songs. But then fate had it's way and the rhytm guitar and bass player left the band. For months we rehearsed with only Niels, Mathias and Thomas. But in February 2009 Schmetterlinck was joined by Bart Maes. A second guitar player was found! Two months later, Schmetterlinck recorded their first demo: 1302, which contains three songs.
