Out 2007, here's hoping it's a good'un. Oh, and Hot Fuzz too. Though that's not previously a book. Hot Fuzz was brilliant by the way- I reached the good Doctor's five laugh rule within, ooh, about seven minutes...I currently love Breakfast On Pluto and A Room With A View.
I haven't really watched any for ages...shows I've enjoyed...My So-Called Life ("Are you, like, crying or something?"); Darkplace ("May I cut your pork pie?"); Spaced ("You can't drink a pint of Bovril!"); Scrubs ("I miss you so much it hurts sometimes."); The Day Today ("Jon Fashanu. Jon Fashanu. Jon Fashanu."); The Mighty Boosh ("It took my hand..." "What, in marriage?!") Green Wing ("Carrier pigeon....!!"); Family Guy ("Uh-oh!"); 24 (not known for it's quotability but damn good); Nathan Barley (the idiots are winning)...and then Renovate My Family- the only show to make me bawl every single episode.
Anything by Martin Millar (especially The Good Fairies of New York, Lux the Poet and Milk, Sulphate and Alby Starvation); anything by Douglas Coupland (especially Miss Wyoming, Microserfs and All Families Are Psychotic); anything by Chuck Palahniuk (especially Invisible Monsters); Umberto Eco- The Name of the Rose; Wilkie Collins- The Woman In White; Bram Stoker- Dracula; Margaret Mitchell- Gone With The Wind; Jane Austen- Pride and Prejudice; Charlotte Bronte- Jane Eyre (don't even get me started on how much this book has made me think); Poppy Z Brite- Lost Souls; anything by Lindsey Davies; anything by Neil Gaiman (especially Neverwhere, Stardust, American Gods)....oh my word, The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon is stunning...The Screwtape Letters, by CS Lewis; Screen Burn by Charlie Brooker- the man is unbelievably funny; East End Chronicles by Ed Glinert is incredibly fascinating- like a Horrible History for adults; The Historian by Elisabeth Kostova- brilliant, made me want to research stuff again (though not necessarily Dracula) ...
