Bred in the days of the Pistols and Clash, The Few began their incarnation in the 80s, when childhood friends Ron and Mike, began recording songs on a 4 track. The name came about from a statement Joe Strummer said in Rude Boy about the rich. Finding his drunk statement compelling, the name stuck. "Howard Beach MC", written in 1986, was a song about the murder of a black man in Queens, NY. It became a New York punk favorite. After a few shows, the pair parted ways and the band ceased to exist. The Few's leader spent the next 13 years of his life playing bass for a touring metal and jazz band. The band experienced worldwide success. "I hated the music but gained some valuable music business experience", said Ron. "The last year in the band was terrible, full of anger and betrayal. I am using all that negative energy to put towards this project." A project influenced by raw punk, roots rock and roll, Oi, rockabilly, and ska."But whats most important is honesty. Lyrics that tell the story of the street, the oppressed, and the stuggles of the human race. Isnt that the definition of Punk? My hero, Joe Strummer, put the spotlight on people and their stuggles. From the freedom fighter, to the bum on the corner, he gave a voice to those who couldnt speak"The Few are currently recording a full length CD, due to be released sometime late in 2008. There is a host of special guests, and it has become an "anyones welcome" type of project. So thats our story, whats yours? I hope you enjoy the music! Our Favorite Zine!
