HOPE is not a strategy...

About Me

Layout made by YourTypicalDorkk About me...I'm a simple man with complex possibilites. A few things that people should know...my Magna Carta:
1. Treat women like women. Not like property, or pin-ups, or punching bags...embrace chivalry--expend the energy it takes to argue against being a gentleman, and use it to open the damn door. Ignorance is not an excuse..if you don't know how to treat a woman, learn.
2. Get out...squish the grass between your toes, breathe in the smog, pick some type of berry off a bush and eat it (it won't kill you; hell we stuck every plant we could get our hands on in our mouth as kids, thinking it was Honeysuckle...), run in the rain, not from it, get laid under the stars---windowsill gardens, babbling brook CD's, picturesque mountain landscapes under glass; these are all fine, but stop trying to capture and confine the outdoors within the framework of your feng shui-laced double wide and go to the source....
3. Respect diversity...hate it, fine--that's your right as a proud card-carrying member of the Stone-Age Neanderthal Association, run from it, cool (chicken shit), but ALWAYS respect it.
4. And most importantly: take care of your peeps (see ebonics, circa 1995). We all lie, cheat, and eat the last slice of pizza...it's okay, we're human; but take care of your friends. Try to include their feelings in your life's equation. Say, "I love you" often; show it even more frequently.
As for me personally, I am probably best described as a good man in a constant state of self-addition..not improvement, addition. I crave learning new things, and have been blessed with a hyperactive right brain, a Sagittarius' spontaneity, and a patient, attentive demeanor. I am a creature of comfort...I love natural beauty in its many forms...anything else you want to know, just ask...

My Interests

I want to live life! I mean, c'mon, this a'int a dress rehersal, this is the real deal!

I want to grab life around the waist, pick it up, shake out its pockets, and buy a comic book and a slurpee with the proceeds.

I want to wake every morning with a renewed sense of purpose and passion, and go to bed every night with the warm knowledge that I have been all, given all, and done all that I could for myself and those whom I love.

I want to draw a new world, paint its trees and communities (with no one left in the margin), and write about it in a poem, a song, a haiku for the ages...

I want to buck the system if need be: tear off the pillow tag, stick foil in the microwave, and run sceaming through the library with scissors in my hand...care to join me?

I'd like to meet:

EVERYONE! I truly believe that people are like pieces to a puzzle: when you first encounter them you may not be able to see how they fit into your life, but soon it becomes clear that each piece plays an important role in forming the "big picture." For this reason I welcome all introductions, enjoy all stimulating conversations, and embrace all friendships.

It seems that many people are interested in people's desire to meet famous (or infamous) people; with that in mind, here's my list:

Robert Frost, WEB DuBois, bell hooks, Charlie "Bird" Parker, Leslie Marmon Silko, Langston Hughes, Judy Blume, Ray Charles, Bill Clinton, George Washington Carver, Judy Garland, Shel Silverstein, Elie Wiesel, and Stephen Hawking

Music:

I am attracted to well conceived lyrics. It's all about tha words Man!!! A good beat is nice for shaking your tailfeather, but a driving rhythm does not a piece of music make (for further clarification, listen to ANY of Britney Spears' albums)...

I would have to start with the big three as far as lyrics are concerned: Alanis Morrisette, Jewel, and the newest inductee James Blunt. Real...Raw...Honest. Does James B. have the cleanest, most American-Idol ready voice? Not by a long shot! Have we ALL been on that subway looking "fucking high"? MOST DEFINATELY! (for further clarification, pull out your copy of "Back to Bedlam" and play track 2--if you don't own this cd...um...wow....sorry.)Others along this vein include The Fray, Breaking Benjamin,Five for Fighting (love this group), Michael Buble', Coldplay, John Mayer, Tracy Chapman, and Sade.

Of course, the ultimate lyrics are those spoken without words:

the pissed off scream of a soprano sax...the low mournful cry of a muted trombone...the sassy comeback from a polished brass trumpet
...Dizzy, Coltrane, Davis, Mingus

Movies:

I love them...I don't think I've ever seen a bad movie...I may just not have been in the mood for that particular film on that particular day...well, okay...you've got me..."Bewitched" with Nicole Kidman was pretty damn bad! A few movies that stand out:

Notting Hill, Top Gun, ALL of the Star Wars flicks (especially ESB, and ROTJ), Henry and June (recently fell in love with this one all over again), Grace of my Heart (one of the BEST films you've never seen!), Glory, Amadeus, The Shawshank Redemption, Must Love Dogs (the dating divorcee's movie), Hitch, The Replacements, Toy Story (pure genius), The Sandlot, Nell, The Lake House, and of course Stand and Deliver
