HIGH SCHOOL AND COLLEGE
- Before High School he attended Jefferson Davis Jr High School where he played football and was on the track team.
- attended Bethel High School in Hampton, Va. 1975-1978
- and the James Madison Univ. in Harrisonburg, Va for 1 year
- in High School he played football and in 1976 was part of the team that won the AAA STATE FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP. Also he was on the track and field team and they also went to state finals.

- Before his bodybuilding career he was Powerlifting at contests throughout the US.

Before Wrestling:
- 1985-1990 he worked for Bally's Health and Tennis Corp. as a Devisional Manager
Football:
- in 1987 he received many tryouts for the National Football League
from Teams such as the Miami Dolphins, Detroit Lions, Washington Redskins and LA Raiders
- he was one of 20 hopefuls offered a deal out of approximate 2000 tryouts, the Dolphins offered him a contract, but he declined to stay with Bally's
Wrestling:
- Met Nature Boy Buddy Rogers at his house in Ft. Lauderdale, Fl.
- he called Larry Sharpe and Tatanka came to "The Monster Factory"
- a Wrestling School in New Jersey
- after 3 months of hard work Tatanka had his first match in Philadelphia, Pa on Jan. 13th 1990 with the WWA, which he won
- he started in the North American Wrestling Assoc. in Charlotte, NC
- after one year he signed a contract with the WWF and made his debut in 1991 under his real name Chris Chavis
- in 1992 he took on the name of Tatanka, the red stripe in the middle of his hair honored the blood and bravery of all the Native Americans and represented all the tribes of the Native Americans
- Tatankas undefeated streak of 2 years did go down in the record books, as one of the longest
- for example: he defeated Skinner, Berzerker, Damian Demento, Shawn Michaels, Kato, Razor Ramon, The Model Rick Martel, Bam Bam Bigelow...
- the undefeated streak ended on Sep. 28th 1993 in Worchester, Massachusetts against Ludvig Borga with help of a chair shot
- after his comeback he had matches against L. Borga, Yokozuna, Bam Bam Bigelow, Owen Hart, IRS...
- at Summerslam 1994 Tatanka turned heel and became a member of Ted DiBiase's "Million Dollar Corperation"
- he wrestled as a heel until March 1996 than ended his career in the WWF
- after his time with the WWF Tatanka spend time together with his wife Michelle and to have a personal relationship with God and his son Jesus Christ
- and they both started a family and in 1996 had their first daughter Christiana Mariah Chavis
- after 2,5 years Wrestling break Tatanka returned to the squared circle
- but now into the Indy promotions worldwide
- 2002 Tatanka and Michelle had their second daughter Rhea Aiyana Chavis
- in 2004 they had their third child and first son Joseph Tatanka Chavis
- on August 1st 2005 he had his first match back with WWE on "Monday Night Raw" against Eugene
- he signed a 2 year contract and startet full time in December 2005 on the SmackDown Brand
- he was released on January 19th 2007
- now he is fighting very successfully in the Indy promotions in the USA and Europe
- on Nov. 10th 2007 he won the DWA World Heavyweight Championship in Germany
