Selvin Mejia is a Latin pop artist residing in Hampton Roads, Virginia. Born in El Salvador in 1980, he is the oldest of five children born to a Salvadoran father and a Spanish mother.

Selvin’s interest in music dates back to his childhood. He began playing the drums at age 10, and says “I remember writing my first song when I was about 12 years old, a song for my mother on Mother’s Day.”

When his mother who was originally from Barcelona, Spain, passed away at 32 years of age due to cancer, Selvin decided to emigrate to the United States. He arrived in Fayetteville, North Carolina when he was 18 years old. There he and several friends formed a tropical music band called Prisioneros (Prisioners).

After the members went their separate ways, Selvin decided to move to Hampton, Virginia for two reasons: to be closer to his girlfriend at the time and to pursue his musical aspirations.

In 2004 he wrote a song for his girlfriend and recorded the song, “Vida Mia” (You are my life), in a local studio. Selvin was able to promote the song on the local Spanish radio station where it was very well-received by listeners. Selvin has performed with Sol Libre (a well-known local flamenco style band) at The Norva and the Fort Eustis Club. He has also performed at local parties, Hispanic festivals and at the Virginia Beach oceanfront.

In mid-2005 with the assistance of his manager Alejandro Gomez, Selvin signed with a local studio, Precise Records, to record his first album. He recently completed the project of 12 songs with his own original lyrics in a mixture of Latin pop and R&B style. Selvin Mejia es un artista de musica pop latina quien reside en Hampton Roads, Virginia. Nacido en El Salvador en 1980, Selvin es el mayor de los cinco hijos de padre salvadorenio y madre espa&241;ola.

Selvin dice que su interes por la musica comenso desde su ninez, y cuando tenia 10 anos ya tocaba la bateria. “Me acuerdo haber escrito mi primera cancion cuando tenia 12 anos; era una cancion para mi mamadre para el Dia de las Madres,” el nos relata.

Cuando su madre quien era oriunda de Barcelona, Espana, fallecio a los 32 anos a causa de cancer, Selvin decidio emigrar a los Estados Unidos. Llego a Fayetteville, Carolina de Norte cuando tenia 18 anos. Alli el y varios amigos formaron una banda llamada Prisioneros que tocaban canciones tropicales. Despues de que los miembros se separaron, Selvin decidio mudarse a Hampton, Virginia por dos razones: para estar mas cerca de su novia en aquel entonces y para seguir su sueno musical.

En el 2004 escribio una cancion para su novia y grabo la cancion “Vida Mia” en un estudio local. Promociono la cancion en la radio hispana local donde fue bien recibida por los radio escucha.

En el area local, Selvin se ha presentado con Sol Libre (un grupo bien conocido de musica estilo “nuevo flamenco”) en The Norva y el Club de Fort Eustis. Tambien se ha presentado en fiestas hispanas locales en el Roma Lodge y la playa de Virginia Beach.

A mediados de 2005 con la ayuda de su gerente Alejandro Gomez, Selvin firmo con un estudio local, Precise Records, para grabar su primer CD.
