... THE AVIATION THEORY HAVE NOW SPLIT UP ...The Aviation Theory rose from the ashes of various former bands in the Stoke-On-Trent area. Originally formed by drummer; Danny Biddulph and guitarist; Glyn Mellor at high school after Dan and Glyn’s original band split up. Looking for a new bassist they got in touch with Tom Edwards, who they met through Danny’s drum teacher. Tom had been in a few previous bands but none were really going anywhere, so he joined and the band was born in the closing months of 2002. They wrote a few songs and then played their first few gigs together. They recorded their first CD in the spring of 2003, but after the demo was finished the band all agreed that there was something missing. Feeling that the band needed more to give the sound they wanted, they began their search for a second guitarist. Various attempts were made but none seemed to fit the bill. Finally Glyn found the missing link. Mike Wilson, a guitarist who he knew from school and had recently left his previous band, was looking for a more serious approach to his music. Instantly the sound of the band was filled with the extra guitar. New material was written and the band began to develop its own unique sound. This leaves us at roughly the end of 2003 Feeling the time right to start new shows with the improved 4 piece, they quickly began to practise all their material. After a few months Glyn decided he wanted to extend his guitar playing at live shows. His vocals were stopping him from achieving the full potential with his guitar. Suggestions of having a lead singer were put forward, and Tom began looking for potential front man for the Aviation theory. After a few weeks Tom was approached by someone from his school who said they knew someone who they thought might be a good candidate. Chris Smith attended the same school as Tom and was in the year below, he was contacted by Tom and over the next few weeks he came to practises and the band discussed about him joining. The Deciding factor was one practise when Chris actually joined in. He had never even heard our songs before, let alone sung them. But he improvised so well and sang with a great amount of enthusiasm. Chris puts all his effort into his vocals and his skills as a front man developed well. The Aviation Theory then had a number of gigs booked within weeks of Chris joining. There first gig as a five piece was at the Talbot in Stoke on 8th April 2004…The reaction from the crowed stunned them, and the band were sure they had found their perfect line up. Quickly they gained status and an ever increasing fan base on the local rock scene. It all seemed too good to be true. Later that year the band suffered from a great deal of internal disagreement and in September of 2004 The Aviation Theory prematurely split up. After a month or so apart the band realised the mistakes they had previously made. They reformed and wrote a complete new set; Bursting back onto the scene, fresh and ready to take on anything. They recorded a new CD and booked new gigs, but unfortunately soon after the CD was finished Chris decided to leave the band to join another local band “A Story at Threeâ€. For a time this caused a lot of tension between the two bands and T.A.T. had yet another mad rush for Glyn and Tom to learn the vocals for the soon approaching gigs. The rivalry between the two bands soon died down, friendships were rebuilt and they have now discussed co-headlining several gigs together. It’s been a long struggle for T.A.T so far, full of unexpected setbacks and problems, however they have still soldiered on and are back on the scene with great plans to tour and new songs to play.
