About Me

Timothy "TJ" MedelIs an energetic and creative poet from Jersey City who has been writing and performing ever since he found out about poetry. This alumni was a member of Sayreville War Memorial High School's Theatre Society and appeared in numerous productions such as Guys and Dolls(2003), Footloose(2003), The Crucible(2004), South Pacific(2005), A Midsummernight's Dream(2005), and a few One Act Productions and talent shows. Not only was he recognized as a performer but he was also voted CLASS WRITER for senior year because of his newly found ability to perform "SLAM" poetry. From there he would continue to bless a new stage by joining the first ever 2006 YOUTH NJ S.L.A.M. Team and would go on to YOUTH NATIONALS presented by BRAVE NEW VOICES and URBAN WORD. He has been fortunate to share his voice alongside poets such as THE READNEX POETRY SQUAD, Kahlil Almustafa (2002 Nuyorican Grand Slam Champion),Desiree Marshall (2004 Nuyorican Slam Team Member), and HBO DEF POETRY JAM'S Flowmentalz(3x Def Poet), Gemineye(4x Def Poet and Grand Slam Champion of New Jersey),Oveous Maximus(featured in award winning documentary "SP!T"), Carlos Andres Gomez(appeared in Spike Lee's "The Inside Man"),and BIG MIKE (Nuyorican Legend, 1X Def Poet,and appeared in "SP!T"). Using wit, performance, and passion, TJ has impressed audiences of all ages in schools, colleges, and venues such as the Starland Ballroom, Newark Museum, The Forum Theatre, The Culture Project, The Bowery,The 5 Points Mission, PS 122, and finally the Legendary Nuyorican Poets Cafe founded by Miguel Algarin. For the 2007 New York Knicks Poetry Slam Series he was able to place Top 20 out of 1200 participants and also was given the opportunity to perform in Madison Square Garden. He is currently furthering his education in acting by attending the American Musical and Dramatic Arts Academy in Manhattan,NY and works for NJ S.L.A.M/SLAM GLOBAL ENTERPRISES as the Director of Adult/Youth relations.

My Interests

"some of the best things in life are worth waiting for. there's no doubt that i'm being put to the test everyday and even though my heart may disagree with my mind on some occasions....there's only one thing that stands out about my choices: this is for her. nothing more and nothing less. now if you know me then you're probably thinking at this point i won't last, i'm clearly insane, stupid, and a WHOLE bunch of other things that i haven't been told already and others are just amazed by how i'm still lasting. how i have so much patience and am so kind hearted that nobody could imagine why i would wait so long when i could have something else. the choices i've made so far in my life aren't what you would think. because i have been going down a road where it's not just me at the end...it's not my future...it's our future.
