SLAM Global Enterprises, Inc., established in 2006, has been designed to connect literary and theatre arts with academic core curriculum standards, promoting youth education, practice of positive behavior, encouragement of community service and empowerment towards obtaining a greater quality of life. Utilizing a structured arts education program, with a strong case management and mentorship approach, SLAM Global seeks to enhance academic performance, increase participation in community service/volunteerism, heightened enrollment into institutions of higher learning; decreasing involvement in destructive/anti social behavioral patterns, school drop out rates, negative self image and truancy.Developed for youth, ages 10-24 years of age, SLAM Global reaches over 500 youth annually, using arts in school teaching residencies, poetry events, slam competitions, open mics, workshops, seminars, community service engagements and participation in national group activities as educational and recreational components towards the emergence of future leaders, exposing youth to various positive influences, aiding in a greater standard for personal success.
Adolescent males, ages 14-21, constitute a growing proportion of juvenile incarceration, arrests, violent crimes, assaults and homicides in 2006, while represent a falling percentage of college or university attendees and graduates (Juvenile Justice Commission, 2006). Information, interactive exercises and person centered planning assists in individual and group enhancement. Helping students gain a broader insight of opportunities academically and professionally, while developing a strong family commitment, positive group affiliations and learning techniques regarding interpersonal and communication skills prove to be ideal in the process of establishing a bright, successful future.The NJ SLAM (Supporting, Leading, Advocating and Mentoring) Team provides various educational, professional development and entertainment services for all ages and audiences, in conjunction with the mission of the organization. Members conduct workshops on writing, poetry, theater and improvisation; stage plays; gang awareness, professional and artistic development workshops for organizations and staff; facilitate poetry events and showcases. Advocate as part of panel discussions, interviews and various functions pertaining to education, youth and performing arts.The NJ Youth SLAM Team, developed in 2006, is a youth initiative for youth, ages 13-19, interested in improving poetic and performance skills through an intensive course of artistic development. Utilizing workshops, poetry slam competitions and events, NJ Youth SLAM facilitates in school performances for students, acts and speaks on behalf organizational target population, travels with a team of 4-10 youth, representing New Jersey, to various locations throughout the country, exposing participants to a myriad of youth poets from all over the world, entertainers and supporters of youth in the performing arts. Participants also engage in mandatory community service projects and community engagement efforts.Fighting Invisibility is a program developed in order to change the present condition of inner city youth. This program analyzes and addresses the affects of positive self image and ethnic identity as a deterrent of incarceration, insolent socialization and deficient academic performance of adolescent males. Sociological and Psychological studies conclude the significance of ethnic identity, positive self image and strong support mechanisms in aiding academic achievement and connections to helpful, viable resources.A need for Change is a youth driven project developed for unemployed and employed youth, living within low income families in disenfranchised communities. Based on an incentive rewards and education approach, participants are assisted with building personal assets and encouraged to deposit financial incentives, wages and/or “change†into a personal savings account. A collaborative effort with Bank North and Washington Mutual, youth, grades K-12 take part in an annual competition, spanning from October to June, whereby students make change within their lives during a host of financial planning workshops and goal assessing. In addition, students acquire change from family members, friends, community, etc., building an account, with an opportunity to have sponsors match monthly deposits.

Become financially literate and begin building assets.The DIAMOND Project (Demonstrating I Am Moving Onward to New Destinations) is a new program developed for youth, grades 8-12, in lower academic performance schools, assisting students in creating a higher standard for success. Promoting an increase of interest in careers within Law Enforcement, Law, Medicine and Healthcare professions. Collaborative efforts have been established with organizations and programs, such as National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE), NL LEEP and The SMART Program at UMDNJ. The purpose of this project: inspire youth to pursue careers as Police Officers, Corrections Officers, Doctors, Lawyers, etc., which has been disproportionate in representing Blacks and Latinos from inner cities.SLAM Global Members D the Schizophrenic, Gemineye, Flowmentalz and Big Mike
