About The Word in Music

About Me

The Word in Music was founded by Pastor Michael & Sheryll Gray in Boone,NC in 1992. The original group started as a teaching Ministry. We went to denominational churches teaching praise and worship scripturally. It is ok to dance and clap, and have drums and other musical instruments in church. Our first year was really good and the Lord blessed what we were doing. Our original agreement was to let The Lord lead us to where we were to go and minister. After our first engagement, the was an offering taken and we were given money. That was the beginning of the end. We did go to other churches and had a sustained engagement at the black Mennonite Church in Boone every Sunday night for 6 months. But as the scripture states " the love of money is the root of all evil",or I should say it opened a door that was not a part of our original calling as a group. The original group disbanded in 1993 because of internal disagreements and because I sustained a back injury and had to have back surgery. As the founder I retain the copywrite for the logo and the name.We have played over the years with other musicians in various genres. In 2005, we formed a group to produce and record a song that I had written with Connie Rudisill in 1994 to honor her and the God in her. Connie went to be with the Lord in 2001 after a battle with cancer. The new arrangement for this song was done by my daughter and a guitar player from a local Presbyterian Church. The players on this recording are Sheryll Gray, vocals; Gene Duncan, lead guitar; my daughter Michelle on acoustic guitar and her husband Dave Carriker on bass; Burley Meyers on rhythm guitar and myself on drums. This was recorded in our music room in Woodleaf, using a LabTech stereo microphone and Creative Labs software. I hope you enjoy it.I have met other local musicians of late who want to use their talents to worship God and be a blessing to others. There will be more to come as the Lord has given us a new mission, which is to make a place for young musicians to have a place to play, guidance from the elder musicians in both the Spirit and music. I am blessed and inspired to say this is already coming to pass. The inspiration for Meshing in the Spirit was from Jamar Howell a 19 year old incredible guitar player. May The Lord be glorified in all that we do!

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: working on it and trying to find a reasonable host
Band Members: presently undergoing changes
Influences: I have lots of musical influences as I was a 70's rock, blues and jazz drummer. YHWH, God is the one I have to give the most credit to, but it was Connie Rudisill who changed my whole perception of music. While I was in college after the back surgery, I had to write a paper for english class. My original approach was from the perspective of Praise and Worship, but God is too controversial for the public educational system. He changed my direction and the paper I wrote was on Music Therapy. What I learned really opened my eyes. I discovered the only one of the 5 senses God gave us that cannot be stopped is our sense of hearing. You can say I like the music but I don't listen to the words, but that is so not true. Music bypasses our consciousness and goes straight to our hearts. Garbage in, Garbage out.
Sounds Like: some rock, some blues, some jazz
Record Label: Unsigned
Type of Label: None
