Maxine never intended to become a musician, setting out to begin a career in physics after leaving her home town of Yeppoon in 2002. But a series of life lessons and a win at the Wintermoon Folk Festival Songwriter’s Competition saw and end to her science career, and instead pushed her towards a lifetime of composition and performance.
Now having just finished a Bachelor of Music at QUT with a focus on songwriting and recording, Maxine is ready to turn what was once a teenage hobby into a career of adventure and exploration. With songs inspired by her interest in psychology, science and politics, a uniquely strong and untrained voice and accompanying finger-picked guitar, she has been described as “…very elegant on stage with a very soulful wit about her.†(Marianne Mettes – Canberra based songstress)
Maxine has also been caught performing with Brisbane based world music ensemble Umoja, and her recorded tracks are currently being used to promote 60sox.org, a fledging site that helps emerging ‘creatives’ gain industry exposure. She has performed her original sets at numerous venues around Brisbane including QPAC and The Zoo, and is a regular at the Yeppoon Village Festival of Arts and Music.
Not only has Maxine’s music begun to take off in the Brisbane scene, but her skills in the recording studio have seen her record anything from the large ensemble NoOsphere, to Geoff Green from popular Australian band George. Her debut single “Revolution†is a mix of self-produced tracks and collaborations with emerging producer Ryan Murray (Brown Bear), and is currently available in person at any of Maxine’s live performances.
