Get the HINT:
a Future of Music Coalition Benefit Concert
in Memory of Drew Glackin

SATURDAY MAY 3, THE POUR HOUSE MUSIC HALL SUNDAY MAY 4, SADLACK'S HEROES
In January, our friend Drew Glackin, an incredibly talented multi-instrumentalist (and all around great fellow), died at 44 of an extremely treatable disease because, like so many working musicians, he couldn't afford (or thought he couldn't afford) health insurance. To learn more about Drew, go to www.drewglackin.com.
For some of us, this story is frankly getting tired. We've held benefits for countless friends who've fallen on hard times. Everyone pitches in, everyone works really hard, bands who get paid little enough get paid nothing. We all have a great time, the music is great & it inspires us, we all congratulate ourselves. But the next morning, when the sun comes out and makes us honest, we have to stand back and scratch our heads, pondering the almost unnoticable dent we've made in the enormous debt that accumulates so quickly when anyone who's uninsured gets really sick.
So this time we've decided to hold a benefit that does a little more. While 50% of the proceeds will go directly to Drew's family to help cover funeral costs and medical bills, the other half will benefit the HINT program, an initiative of the Future of Music Coalition that provides free, professional guidance to musicians who seek to acquire low-cost, high deductible health insurance plans.
Alex Maiolo, an active musician who lives and works here in the Triangle, is one of the insurance professionals who provides this service. While Alex has no love for our current healthcare system, he does have some very interesting ideas about how musicians can form support communities, working within the system to prevent the sort of tragic loss and massive financial strain that's plagues us now. Alex and his collegues don't have anything for sale, but they're really good at navigating the system, and have already helped hundreds of musicians find coverage.
As "struggling" musicians this excites and inspires us. Finally we can see some solution to this problem, and we really want to help spread the word. Our two-day event, entitled Get the HINT: a Future of Music Coalition Benefit Concert in Memory of Drew Glackin will serve both as a tribute to a great musician and friend, and also to raise awareness and support to bring health care to all musicians, even BEFORE our government solves the mess we're in.
