About Me
Dmitry Alexandrov was born December, 27, 1973 in Kharkiv, Ukraine. That’s where he got elementary and secondary musical education. At the age of 15 he entered Kharkiv Musical College where he took a saxophone for the first time in his life and showed such zeal, eagerness and love to the instrument that this very year became a prize-winner at a Donetsk (Ukraine) musical contest and, at 16, an awardee at a Kiev one.
1992 Dmitry was enrolled to the Rostov-on-Don music conservatory (this educational establishment is known to be one of the most respected jazz centers in the CIS). Soon after he transfers to the Kharkiv Art College to proceed studying.
1995 Alexandrov founds "Skhid Side" band which in several years was to become one of the most original and professional jazz ensembles in Ukraine.
Since 1996 Alexandrov has toured a lot, with Russia, Great Britain, Spain, Poland, Lithuania and Germany among the visited countries.There’s been a whole bunch of jazz celebrities with whom Dmitry happened to perform. Igor Butman, Leszek Mozdzer, Goetz Gruenberg, Vladimir Nesterenko, Marlon Jordan, Jerald Hayes, Kim Plainfield, Josef Ametsbihler, Mark Soskin, Randy Brecker, Adam Pieronczik, Mark Gilmour, "Gabin", "De Phazz" to name a few.Alexandrov is an author and participant of several projects, amongst which there is a salsa-playing band, modern jazz group and mainstream ensembles - quartets, trios and combos. At the time Dmitry’s working out an idea of a completely new an authentic project, musically based on original Ukrainian tunes.
