Just who are Louie? Well…. Louie are a six piece that formed at the East 15 acting school, Essex, but that’s not to say these lads are posh London boys.... far from it!! With 5 of the boys hailing from various parts of the north it’s a story that holds many tales! For example, what makes Louie unique is the fact they have 2 lead singers.
"Me and jord have a chemistry together especially lyrically. We’ve found that we can approach a song or a subject from two completely different angles and end up with the same result” - Gaz
Formed in early 2005, Jordan, Gaz, Andy, Luke, Russell and Mikey started the band for, well, basically something else to do! Jordan knew Andy from back home and all the pieces came together. Andy came down to record a demo with the rest of the band and, well long story short, ended up sleeping on Jordan’s couch for 9 months leaving his work and everything else behind. They made their live debut in May 2005 at London's Rhythm Factory to a sell out crowd.
"Not even record companies could get in, it was wicked" – Mikey
They did their first tour supporting Mick Jones from The Clash in June that year. The day after the tour ended the band flew out to Portugal to play Super Bock Super Rock with the likes of Incubus and The Prodigy.
“It was pretty crazy. We’d just finished our first tour with Mick Jones and then we were flying out to play in front of 30,000 people at the biggest festival in Portugal” – Luke
Later that year the band opened the Radio1/NME tent at both Leeds and Reading Festival.
“Playing one of the biggest festivals of the summer was great. I only really remember waking up the next day with a bad hangover” - Russ
Also during the summer they played the O2 Wireless festival in Hyde Park playing in a huge inflatable dome. During 2006 Louie supported Kasabian, The Fratellis and Dirty Pretty Things on their first UK tour. Other festivals included Middlesborough Live, Download and Camden Crawl to name but a few. To date the band have released 3 limited edition singles with both 'Trees' and 'The Curves and the Bends' receiving the prestigious runner up single of the week award in the NME. ‘Trees’ was voted single of the year in Disorder magazine. 3rd single 'Deadman' earned the band single of the week on London's XFM drive time slot. In May of 2006 they started work on their debut album with legendary producer Stephen Street of blur, The Smiths, Kaiser Chiefs, The Zutons and Graham Coxon’s solo work. The Album was completed at the end of November 2006. During this time Louie also appeared on the World Cup song ‘Hurry Up England’ with Sham69 and Graham Coxon for Virgin radio in the summer of last year. 2007 sees the release of the bands first chart eligible single ‘I Know What You're Doing Tonight’ and a tour to coincide with this release. Backing vocals for the single are provided by Kasabian who took time out from mixing their album to come help us out. What else 2007 has in store is anyone’s guess but it’s sure to be exciting…….
