Books:

All James Herbert's work (especially The Survivor and Lair), Jack Kerouac (On The Road and Dharma Bums) and Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events (better than Harry Plopper!).

Heroes:

Too many...however, Ziggy Stardust would have to be the most divine!
