This Was A Statement Made By Joe Capobianco That I Wanted To Post To This Site For A Couple Of Reasons.
First: I Think This Is What The Tattoo Experience Is All About, IMHO! This Is What I Personally Look For When Seeking Out An Artist For My Project.
Second: I Am Personally Seeing The Tattoo Shops That Are Popping Up With The “I Am The Best†Attitudes As Well As The “Thank You For Your Money†Ones As Well.
So Maybe With This Posted Here, Everyone Can See One Of The Greats, & His Genuine Attitude Towards What A Tattoo Experience Should Be!

TT: A lot of trades are not valued anymore and they are disappearing so maybe it’s good to get more people interested in it.
JC: Tattooing is no longer seen as a trade. It’s considered a ‘job’, just a thing that people do to make money. A lot of people don’t have a true love for it and that’s unfortunate. Another thing that’s getting lost is the relationship with the client. Everybody treats the client like they don’t give a shit. You come in, I do a tattoo, you pay me, you’re done. I don’t think that’s fair. I think part of the experience is the building of the rapport. I have tattooed people who have come in eight or ten times to finish a sleeve or back piece. They become friends after a while. If I’m a complete asshole, where’s the incentive for them to come back? I think it should be a whole package: good rapport, a fun time and getting the tattoo done. A lot of tattooers don’t want to deal with clients. They want someone to come in, give them an idea, throw money at them, sit down, get tattooed, leave and they never have to see them again. There are a lot of tattooers like that and I think it’s a shame. I don’t know about in Europe, but in the States there are people who have been tattooing for a year or two who think a hell of a lot of them selves because they tattoo….
