Destri

She is too fond of books, and it has addled her brain. --Louisa May Alcott

About Me

I cannot force wit, so I'm sorry if this profile is very boring. I will try to edit it as inspiration strikes. I will try not to edit it after too many glasses of wine.I'm a technical writer for a software company. I don't think any of my friends know what I do because their eyes glaze over when I try to describe my job. It's not very exciting.I like to read. I'm not particular about what I read, although I'm the first to admit it when I'm reading a terrible book (I always finish it, though.).I like my dog, even though she drives everyone else crazy.I love my family and friends, and I probably drive them crazy.I love my husband, but I have a sneaking suspicion he's trying to turn me into a soccer mom. I'm also afraid I might enjoy being a soccer mom. I'm trying to resist, but it may be futile. I will, however, never drive a minivan.I like to cook, but other than that I have no real hobbies. I'm trying to choose one, but I have no hand-eye coordination and that seriously limits my hobby possibilities (and makes cooking rather dangerous).

My Interests

Books, books, books, really bad t.v., cheap wine, expensive wine, NPR, chick music, and movies with a lot of dialogue

I'd like to meet:

Jon Stewart, Ira Glass, Barack Obama, Joyce Carol Oates

Music:

I like all types of music. But, I can feel myself slowly evolving into an easy listening type of girl (Witness the list below). Beastie Boys, U2, Sonic Youth, Pixies, Morphine, They Might Be Giants, Ween, Ben Folds, Damien Rice, Dar Williams...notice the evolutionary pattern here?

Movies:

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Garden State, Secretary, Control Room, Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room, Amélie, Pulp Fiction, One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest

Television:

Lost (I am horribly addicted), Project Runway, Top Chef, Antiques Roadshow, really bad MTV dating shows that I should have grown out of years ago, and almost anything on HGTV (incipient soccer mom urges)

Books:

This list is way more difficult for me than music or movies and those are terribly incomplete.I love John Irving because he's accessible and bizarre. I also love Joyce Carol Oates, Margaret Atwood, Erica Jong, David Sedaris, Dave Eggers, Alice Sebold, Jane Austen, Phillip Roth, John Updike, Ernest Hemingway, Willa Cather, William Faulkner, Michael Chabon, Jeffrey Eugenides, Roddy Doyle
