Serge Prokofiev
(27 April 1891 - 5 March 1953)
One of the greatest composers and pianists of the XX century, Sergey Prokofiev wrote an opera at the age of 9. Prokofiev studied composition with N. Rimsky-Korsakov at St. Petersburg Conservatory. Prokofiev was an outstanding melodist with a unique musical voice, who wrote in a wide range of genres including operas, ballets, film scores, cantatas, orchestral, chamber and instrumental works. Considered as impossibly dissonant and avant-garde in his youth, Prokofiev now is one of the best known and acclaimed musicians of the 20th Century.
