Nemesis ist in der griechischen Mythologie die Göttin des „gerechten Zorns“ sowie diejenige, die „herzlos Liebende“ bestraft. Sie wurde dadurch auch zur Rachegottheit.
Sie ist eine Tochter der Nyx („Nacht“) und des Okeanos oder Erebos und die Schwester von Eris, Hypnos, Ker, Momos, Philotes und Thanatos. Ihre Begleiterin ist die Göttin Aidos („Scham“).
Nemesis bestraft vor allem die menschliche Selbstüberschätzung und die Missachtung von Themis, der griechischen Göttin des Rechts und der Sittlichkeit. Wie die Erinys kann auch sie in der Mehrzahl – NEMESEIS – angerufen werden.
