Where there is a prohibition, there is a wish.

About Me

I'm a spec-fic writer and journalism refugee who most recently worked as an academic editor, which sounds like a great gig until you have to try and explain "opportunity cost" to 4th graders.

These days, I'm on the business end of publishing, which bears a striking resemblance to the business end of a Walther PPK. I point an Excel sheet at people and say "Stick 'em up!"

"Until one has some kind of professional relationship with books one does not discover how bad the majority of them are."
- George Orwell

My Interests

Men in makeup, manga, live music in small clubs, kitties (mine and other people's, but mostly mine), overthrowing the patriarchy, the future of media and technology, dying my hair, drinking bourbon by the bucketful, stubbornly not smoking, sewing, anime, baking, NFL football, NPR, many more TK . . .

I'd like to meet:

Chris Eccleston. And Keith Richards. Oh, you mean here? Other writers, artists, film makers, geeks, musicians and all-around creative types.

If you send me a friend request, I will check out your page and see if we have anything in common. Or if I like your pet. If not, I probably won't say yes. And you can send me your band's page; I'll listen and if I like you, I'll add you. If I don't, I won't. See how simple that was?

Oh, and if you don't have any Favorite Books listed on your page, I will assume you are the kind of person who doesn't like books, and therefor we would have nothing to talk about and I will send your friend request packing.

Shes From the Future (or at least her shoes are)

Weirdly, our microwave died yesterday. I was warming up a cup of coffee and twenty seconds in the sound got louder and more rumbly and the kitchen smelled like wet, burning circuits. Since we still ha...

Where Do People Find the Time (I intellectually <3 Clay Shirky)

Yesterday, I worked for 9 hours. I had 12 meetings. Now, math has never been my strong suit, but that seems a little much. And I wonder why I can't seem to get anything done. So today I'm working from...
