A lot can happen in three years. Thus is the story of the young pop-punk quartet Autumn Avenue. In a couple years time, this group of college students not only recorded and released their debut album, but they have toured the North East constantly, making successful stops at major venues including Arlene’s Grocery in New York City, Northern Lights in Albany, New York, and Harper’s Ferry in Boston, and playing with bands such as The Starting Line, Tokyo Rose, Bandcamp, and Zolof the Rock and Roll Destroyer. Their music is available internationally via the iTunes Music Store, and has been added to the “IndieBoom†internet radio station. Their hard work hasn’t gone unnoticed, either, as they have been in negotiations with record labels.
In the winter of 2005, four college students came together with the same drive, passion, and stylistic goals. All members coming from previous projects of different styles, the band found a common ground with rock, pop, and punk. From this, the pop-punk sound with a hard rock edge that is Autumn Avenue was born.
Their debut record, The Wishing Well Diaries, is a collection of nine songs that range from heavy guitar driven rock, to acoustic ballads, two of which have been found in the “Top Ten†pop-punk songs by an unsigned artist on Myspace. The band also has their first music video for the lead-off single “Play it Again, Samâ€.
The band’s sophomore effort, Take a Swing Into My Smile was just released in March 2008. A shorter-yet-harder album of seven songs shows the growth of the band from bubblegum-pop-punk quartet to a harder-edged more progressive sound. The messages in the new album are based in life issues that we can all relate to. The album title can be found in the song "I Believe (Mind Over Matter)" an electropop song about defying the impossible. "Date with the Gallows," is about hurtful love and the confusion of relationships, while "Forever" can be taken as losing love to death. Deeper tones, harder beats, and more extreme vocals make Take A Swing Into My Smile an album to definitely take a listen to.
