About Me

In the earlier half of the 20th century the evolutionist, Richard Goldshmidt proposed the idea that evolution took place in leaps where new species arise suddenly as mutants of another species. He called these mutants "hopeful monsters" because given a certain set of environmental conditions they would be selected for and quickly establish themselves as a new species. Later, in the 1970's, Niles Eldredge and Stephen Jay Gould further supported the idea with their theory of punctuated equilibria. The late Ernst Mayr, however, a Professor of Zoology at Harvard University believed that these "genetic monstrosties by mutation" were nothing but "HOPELESS MONSTERS" with no realistic chance of taking hold in a population. The freaks would never be selected by nature and instead were doomed for failure.HOPELESS MONSTERS is a band composed of members that are mutated half scientist/ half musician. Obsessed with science. Making a best effort at understanding how the world works. Reacting musically. The music does not outwardly reflect science. But the songs show an understanding of the inner workings involved in feelings of frustration, doubt, love, reflection, and almost any other feeling perceived or unperceived. Listen and find a reaction of your own.The recordings were accomplished using analog and digital technology in many a makeshift operation. Home and apartment rooms throughout Long Island and Queens provided the setting for the recordings. The songs represented here and others are a constant work in progress and are continually rerecorded and honed as the band's skill and technique using recording technology improve.I edited my profile with Thomas' Myspace Editor V4.4
