Steve Michael Johnson, known to those in the music industry scene as “Freestyle Steve,†is a one-man entertainment machine. Steve is not only a producer of beats, but his voice is one of the most sought-after for radio and television commercials. He is the official tour Dj’s Super Producer “Timbalandâ€. The name Freestyle was given to Steve by his best friend, the late DJ Uncle Al, when he noticed that Steve had a talent for rapping, dancing, mixing, and producing. Freestyle was the first Dj to play NY hip-hop music on the underground radio station the SugarHill Dj’s operated in the early 90’s. Al always said Steve had no set style of playing music, that he could play it all so he gave him the name Freestyle Steve. He has developed a niche for djing with CD’s only and has become one of the only DJs in Miami to both master and capitalize from this skill.Freestyle expanded his growing notoriety by co-producing “Uncle Al’s unplugged,†with DJ Uncle Al, which was broadcasted nationally on WAMI Los Angeles, Miami and New York in the late 90’s. The show was similar to BET’s “The Basement†catering to the underground scene in Miami. The show also featured major artists such as: Dr. Dre, Trina, Trick Daddy, Three-6- Mafia, Busta Rhymes, Wyclef, Chico Debarge and many more.DJ Freestyle Steve has continuously shown support for his community, which remains important to his success. He has donated his own personal venue earnings to local charities such as: the Duane Starks Foundation, the Horace Mann Middle School Boy’s Basketball Team, the Overtown Optimist Club & the Liberty City Optimist Club, which provides sporting equipment, travel and educational tools to local underprivileged children.Today one of Steve’s missions in life is to carry on the legacy of the talented DJ Uncle Al, whom he worked closely with as a colleague and considered his best friend who sadly passed away a few years ago.
